New Delhi: Vijay Jolly Indian BJP Leader & President – Delhi Study Group while addressing political leaders of ASEAN, Africa & Middle East stated that two BJP Prime Ministers of Republic of India A.B. Vajpayee & Narendra Modi are “chief architects of modern Indo-Iran friendship”.
Mr. Jolly addressed the International Conference of Asian Political Leaders at Hall of Heads of States in Tehran, Iran. Loud cheers from assembled global leaders greeted Jolly when he stated that BJP Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee visited Islamic Republic of Iran in April 2001 & signed “Tehran Declaration”. And later Iran President Mohd. Khatami visited India on 26th Jan 2003 as Chief Guest at Indian Republic Day Parade.
And Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Iran in May 2016 and 12 MoUs/agreements were signed. And then Modi in presence of Iran President Rouhani & Afghan President Ashraf Ghani signed the historic contract on Chabahar Port development with Indian investment of US$ 85 million. This accelerated and strengthened bilateral relations between the three nations.
The frequent visits of Minister of External Affairs Smt. Sushma Swaraj & Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Shipping Nitin Gadkari further cemented Indo-Iranian relations claimed Jolly in his eloquent Tehran address.
Dy. Foreign Minister Political Affairs – Islamic Republic of Iran Abbas Araqchi inaugurated the Tehran conference and stated the firm resolve of Iranians to counter the false western propaganda against its nuclear program & development.
Ex-Speaker Philippines Jose de Venecia stressed closer cooperation between shia dominated Iran & sunni dominated Saudi Arabia for lasting peace in middle east.
Iranian cleric Hassan Khomeini grandson of Supreme Founder of Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatoloh Khomeini & Mayor of Tehran Mohd. Ali Najafi also spoke. Conference discussed role of political parties in de-escalating tensions, confronting terrorism, sustainable urban development, cultural interaction and trade related business on silk road. Indian leader Jolly met Saurabh Kumar, Indian Ambassador in Tehran & had two hours long interaction on current Indo-Iran scenario.
