Visakhapatnam, February 24, 2018: Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of PSUs under the Ministry of Power, today signed four MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding) with the State Government of Andhra Pradesh announcing an investment of INR 3,730 crore. Spanning across e-mobility, energy efficiency and renewable energy, the four projects will create over 15,000 jobs and save costs up to INR 3,185 crore.
The MoUs were signed in the presence of Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh along with Shri Saurabh Kumar, Managing Director, EESL and Shri Ajay Jain, Principal Secretary (Energy), Government of Andhra Pradesh. The MoUs entail supply of 10,000 electric cars and 4,000 chargers to various departments of A.P Government through NREDCAP; supply of approx. 17 lakh smart energy meters to both DISCOMS in the state – APEPDCL and APSPDCL, and establishment of small solar PV-based power projects (APSPDCL) in phases.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Saurabh Kumar, Managing Director, EESL said, “Andhra Pradesh has been a frontrunner in adopting advanced, energy-efficiency and renewable energy solutions. Details of the MoUs signed today are given below:
E-Mobility: EESL has signed an MoU with the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (NREDCAP) for supplying 10,000 electric vehicles and supply/install 4,000 chargers in state government offices. EESL will provide these vehicles to government departments on lease/outright purchase to replace the existing petrol and diesel vehicles. EESL has already started the process of procurement of E-Vehicles and chargers.
Solar PV-based Power Project: The Southern Power Distribution Company of AP Ltd (APSPDCL) has signed an MoU with EESL for establishment of small solar PV-based power projects in two phases. The first phase entails establishment of a 150-MW plant with an investment of INR 650 crore. The second phase includes a 300-MW project with an investment of INR 1,300 crore.
Smart Meters: EESL has signed MoUs with the Eastern Power Distribution Company of AP Ltd (APEPDCL) and the Southern Power Distribution Company of AP Ltd (APSPDCL) to supply 17 lakh smart energy meters to both the DISCOMs. The project will have a sustainable impact by increasing DISCOM’s revenues through increased billing efficiency and reduction in Operation & Maintenance cost.
