Pune: Hatsun Agro Product Ltd.(HAP), a leading private dairy company in India, with brands ‘Arokya’, ‘Hatsun’, ‘Arun Icecreams’ etc has successfully installed Solar Systems with 100 watt capacity at over 8500 Hatsun Milk Banks (Milk Collection Centres) situated in various villages across Tamil Nadu, AP, Telangana and Maharashtra from where HAP procures milk directly from farmers. HAP has a network of around 9500 Hatsun Milk Banks currently.
At Hatsun Milk Banks, milk supplied by every farmer is tested, weighed and complete details are shared to the farmer over an SMS on a daily basis to ensure 100% transparency. HAP’s main objective is to fully power this infrastructure with the help of renewable energy.
Towards achieving this goal, HAP has engaged with Phocos India Pvt. Ltd., a renowned manufacturer of solar-powered panels, charge controllers and components for 1800 solar panels worth Rs. 2 crores to be installed at existing and upcoming Hatsun Milk Banks. With the installation of these panels by the end of the month, 100% of the basic procurement infrastructure (testing, weighing & all lamps) at HAP will be functioning with the help of renewable energy. Also, Hatsun milk banks will become less dependent on grid power supply.
Phocos India Pvt. Ltd. is the Indian arm of Phocos AG Germany, a world-leading manufacturer of solar-powered panels, charge controllers and components. The entire solar kit is designed in Germany by Phocos AG and manufactured at Phocos India’s production facility in Pondicherry and Chennai.
HAP is in the forefront of using renewable energy in the dairy sector in India. HAP already has commissioned wind power plants with 24 MW capacity in Tuticorin District, Tamil Nadu along with a solar plant with 550 KW capacity that was commissioned during March 2017 in Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu with a combined investment of Rs.180 crores.
According to RG Chandramogan, Chairman and MD, HAP, “At HAP, we are committed to deliver the highest standards of milk and other dairy products. It is our constant endeavour to utilize renewable energy across all levels. The solar powered Hatsun milk centres will have uninterrupted power supply and will ensure that the weighing scale, testing equipment and all lamps work fully on renewable energy. The major gain for HAP with uninterrupted power supply is certainty of 100% quality assurance at the procurement stage itself, especially when expanding to new territory. HAP will continue to implement new technologies in other processes as well to increase renewable energy usage.
