Student start-ups promoted, two out of which have begun their revenue streams
Pune, Tuesday 17th Jan 2017: IBS Pune has always spearheaded the international placements within IBS group.More than 50% of the group’s international placements took place from IBS Pune, alone. IBS Pune has moved well into the placement season 2016-17 with 18 international placements.
As of 10th January, 2017, 65% of the outgoing batch has been placed. By the end of January, 2017, it is expected that 85% of the batch will be placed. Prominent industry segments where IBS students have received placements include Banking and Financial Sectors, Consulting, IT, Sales and Marketing.
These excellent placements ride on the very well – thought – out and designed curriculum and delivery of the two year PGPM Program of IBS Pune. This is designed to impart managerial skills in students and equip them with appropriate knowledge so that they are able to have a global view of the organization, and look at organizational issues from a holistic perspective, irrespective of their specialization in a particular functional area.
The courses offered in the Program are practice-oriented with emphasis placed on application of principles, tools and concepts to address the challenges and problems faced by today’s organizations. These courses are carefully designed to facilitate learning in managerial decision – making within the context of organizational strategy. Students are encouraged to critically evaluate decision situations and use rigorous analysis in arriving at a particular decision. At the same time, the ethical implications of their decisions are also urged to be considered. The Program is aimed at deepening the understanding of the key functional areas and strategic dimensions of management, and equipping future professionals with the latest tools and techniques.
The entrepreneurship cell (E-Cell) has been nurturing students in setting up their own businesses and turning them into job givers. In the last one year, our E-Cell promoted four student start-ups, two out of which have begun their revenue streams.
IBS, Pune, has an unconventional and innovative exercise of occasional involvement of the (full time) Soft Skills trainer in campus interviews and GDs conducted by reputed recruiters. This was done with a nod from industry in order to gauge, appreciate and experience the industry outlook towards new recruitments. This process helped mapping and matching of stated requirements and in gaps identification. Regular Recruiters’ meets are held to understand their expectation from IBS students and to work with the students to enhance the required skills. This has also helped IBS, Pune in engaging with the industry even closer and stronger.
Students, in addition to learning about management are also shaped into well-rounded personalities through improved communication and presentation skills. Some of the focus areas of the soft-skills program are:
- English LanguageSkills, which include spoken and written skills
- Good Presentation Skills
- Developing self-confidence, inter-personal skills, team building and leadership
Imparting confidence in facing every kind of group discussion and interview situations during placements is a key deliverable.
Summer Internship Program(SIP)
One of the unique features of the program offered at IBS Pune is the 14 weeks Summer Internship Project (SIP) that our students have to undergo at the end of one year of the Two Year Program. This lengthy duration makes the SIP more than an academic project, and students can make a real contribution to the organization.
Case Methodology
Case teaching methodology is a hallmark of teaching at IBS. The Case Method exposes students to real-life business situations and encourages them to look at a problem or challenge from various dimensions. It is expected that students will study cases, comprehend the business situation, analyze the problems and come up with alternatives/solutions and then discuss the case in class. A good case is a very powerful instrument in evaluating a student as it puts the student into the shoes of the real-world managers who must face the challenge of decision-making.
All these intiatives helped the students in developing themselves as well – grounded all-rounders who have brought laurels to IBS Pune by winning numerous prizes in sports, debating and cultural events in Pune and outside.
The Institute organizes an annual management festival ZEAL, which tests the managerial capabilities of students on a larger scale – from preparing the budget, to resource management and team work; at the same time enthusing people to work and participate across events. Competing with students from other colleges infuses a greater level of enthusiasm and a competitive spirit.
In an age of umpteen closures of B-schools, IBS boasts of having stood by its motto Meritum Ethicus. Discipline, punctuality and professionalism are the basic tenets. The student goes through a rigorous academic regime with a Continuous Evaluation System that has a variety of Evaluation Methods which include Projects, Case Studies, Quizzes and Assignments. Students are from pan-India, thus making up for a very cosmopolitan institute environment for best exchange of thoughts and ideas.
