Mumbai: StockMIND, India’s biggest Virtual Stock Market competition for students aimed at educating the youth on investing in the stock markets, has entered its fifth season. For the past five years, this nationwide initiative has successfully created stock investing awareness in close to over 4 Lakh students in an exciting and risk free manner. The competition which has been a runaway success, has been featured as the ‘Largest Competition on Stock Investments’ under Business section of 2016 edition of Limca Book of Records.
Since StockMind Season 5 commenced in September 2016, more than 90,000 students from over 270 colleges across 50 cities have participated. This year also saw an enthusiastic response from Tier II and Tier III cities with more than 55,000 students participating in the competition.
‘StockMIND – The quest for the best budding investor’ was launched in 2012 as an annual national-level competition with the aim of promoting smart investing habits among college students.
Since then its popularity with colleges and students has grown multifold. ICFL reaches out to thousands of students through several leading colleges in India. Since the objective of the game is to help students understand the equity markets, the students are allocated with virtual money on a proprietary platform called Virtual Stocks, developed by ICFL. Each participant gets Rs 15,00,000 of virtual money.
StockMIND is held in two stages – post graduate students participate in StockMIND and the graduate students participate in StockMIND Grads college round. Winners from the college round participate in the National Round to win the StockMIND title and a wide range of exciting prizes. Four seasons of StockMIND has seen participation from lakhs of students from varied disciplines like engineering, management, commerce, science, etc.
The winners of StockMind Season 5 will be announced in early March. Besides a cash prize of Rs1,00,000, the national winner of StockMIND Season 5 will also get an all-expense paid trip for two to Thailand. The winner of StockMIND Grads Season 5 will receive a cash prize of Rs 50,000 along with an all expense trip for two to an Indian destination. In order to encourage stock investing among women, in 2016 ICFL had introduced special women’s category with special prizes for smart women investors. StockMIND provides an opportunity to post-graduate students to trade in derivatives apart from equity in the national round and the derivative winner will be rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 20,000/-.
All the national winners get a rolling trophy at a Gala Awards Ceremony which is telecast on leading TV channels. Participation is free and certificates are awarded to every participant.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Neeraj Joshi, Head – ICFL, ICICI Securities Ltd said “ICFL’s StockMIND not only builds the necessary skills required to invest in the equity market but also challenges the analytical, problem solving and decision making skills of a student. We aim to reach out to more students in smaller cities and towns in India through StockMIND and provide them an innovative and easy access to financial education.”
