Chennai: Isuzu Motors India (IMI), a subsidiary of Isuzu Motors Limited, Japan, has announced a key change in the management w.e,f February 14, 2016. Mr. Hitoshi Kono, General Manager, Isuzu Asia Dept, Isuzu Business Division will succeed Mr. Shigeru Wakabayashi as Deputy Managing Director of Isuzu Motors India. Mr. Shigeru Wakabayashi will assume the role of Division COO, Isuzu Business Division, Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan. The changes in the management is as per the business plans of the company.
Mr. Wakabayashi has been instrumental in driving the ‘ISUZU’ brand into India. The project which started in August 2012 has crossed many milestones including the launch of ISUZU D-MAX pick-up and MU-7 SUV, dealership expansion and setting up a new manufacturing plant for ISUZU in India. Mr. Wakabayashi helped ISUZU in building its foundation in India and establishing the organisation. Under his leadership, ISUZU has significantly increased its footprint in the market with its world-class products. Some of his key achievements include setting up the ISUZU business plan for India and successfully driving the initial phase of ISUZU operations. He has played an important role in liaising with the Andhra Pradesh government in setting up ISUZU’s new manufacturing plant at Sri City.
Mr. Shigeru Wakabayashi said, “It has been a very interesting journey so far in India and I am very happy to see Isuzu Motors India come across many milestones since inception. Isuzu has made rapid inroads into the market in a short period of time. I will continue to support the Indian operations in my capacity as Division COO of ISUZU at Mitsubishi Corporation. Mr. Kono has an experience of over three decades across various global markets. He was responsible for ISUZU Asia Department at Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan, in his earlier role. He was instrumental in establishing ISUZU UTE Australia in January 2008 to import and distribute the ISUZU D-MAX in Australia.
