Pune: MAEER’s MIT Group of Institutions, Pune takes great pleasure in announcing the launching of its latest academic venture – MIT School of Film and Television, Raj Kapoor Memorial, Rajbaug Pune. The institute will begin classes from the current academic year 2015-16.
It is a matter of great fortune that this MIT School of Film & Television (MITSFT) has been established at Rajbaug, the land which was once owned by the greatest showman of Indian film industry, legendary film maker, actor and producer Shri. Raj Kapoor. This picturesque stretch of land, on the banks of the river Mula-Mutha, has now been developed into a state-of-the-art educational complex by MAEER’s MIT Group of Institutions, Pune, which was established in 1983 by the visionary educationist Prof. Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad.
The legendary Raj Kapoor conceived, planned, wrote and shot many of his epoch-making films at Rajbaug. It is also here that the Samadhi of Raj Kapoor, his father the great actor Prithviraj Kapoor and his beloved mother Ramsarani Devi has been established. MAEER’s MIT Group of Institutions, Pune has preserved the land in all its pristine glory including the bungalow where Raj Kapoor himself stayed. We have also established a permanent memorial in his honor named ‘Raj Kapoor Memorial – The Golden Era of Indian Cinema’ at Rajbaug as a tribute to this golden period of the Indian film industry.
Pune has a rich tradition of film making from the earliest years. The veritable Prabhat Film Company was established at Pune way back in the 1920s. Pune also has the National Film Archives of India, where all of India’s film history is preserved in its original form. It is therefore, very significant that the land which once belonged to Raj Kapoor will now have one of the most modern and advanced film and television training institutes like MITSFT.
The upcoming MITSFT will impart the most modern and advanced training to the young aspirants who dream of making a career in various departments of film production. The aspirants will be exposed to the latest trends and techniques of filmmaking through classroom training, practical, lectures, demonstrations, project work etc. They will be nurtured by both Indian and international filmmakers as well as academicians of great repute, who have a global perspective and who will train the aspirants to be amongst the best in the world.
Dr. Jabbar Patel, renowned theatre and film personality for nearly 50 years and almost all the films of whom have won National /International Awards, is the Chairman of MIT School of Film & Television. Mr. Samar Nakhate, renowned film academician from Pune is the Chief Coordinator.
Some of the most recognized names in the industry, having both national and international recognition are a part of the Advisory Board of MITSFT. They include Mr. Mani Ratnam, Mr. Shaji Karun, Mr. Girish Kasarvalli, Mr. Gautam Ghosh and Mr. Janu Barua.

This will enable the students to have direct exposure to the best international films and learn from them as well as give them the opportunity to interact with international luminaries who attend the festival and attend the master-classes conducted by them. MITSFT also has formed associations with the Shankar Mahadevan Music Academy, Mumbai for mentorship in music and with Dawn Studios, Pune for technical audio support. Discussions are also in progress for academic alliance with a few world class film schools from USA, Europe etc.
MIT School of Film and Television, Rajbaug will conduct 3-year full time courses in Direction, Cinematography, Editing and Sound Engineering and 2-year full time courses in Screenplay Writing and Art Direction.
