New Delhi: The Delhi Police have arrested a person who cheated many people in the name of providing them a job with the Northern Railway. With the arrest of Santosh Giri, the Economic Offences Wing has busted a gang that used to take money up to Rs. 5 lakh from people promising them to give job as a ticket collector. The gang had also set up a fake railway website.
“The arrest came after a case was registered on the complaint of nine victims, including one Mukesh Kumar. He told us that his father Zille Singh came to know through Ram Karan that some persons are getting the job of ticket collector in Kolkata. Zille Singh along with Ram Karan and five candidates went to Kolkata and met Santosh Giri who demanded Rs. 5 lakh from each candidate for arranging the job,” a senior police officer said. “He demanded half of the amount at the time of their medical test and the remaining on the display of their names on the railway website. Later on, his associates Sunil and Komal met them and filled in their forms and their medical test was also conducted,” the officer said.
“After a few days, Giri informed them that their names were displayed on the website and asked them to come to Kolkata with money. They were assured that joining letters would be delivered at their houses. But those were never received,” he added.
