Vijayawada: City-based Manipal Hospitals performed a complex liver resection on Durga Bhavan, a resident of Hyderabad. First of its kind, the surgery was done by a team led by Dr M Manisegaran, consultant surgical gastroenterology.
Briefing mediapersons on the surgery and complex nature of liver, Manisegaran said any illness pertaining to liver should not be ignored as even a simple lesion might lead to cancer and death, if not treated.
“At Vijayawada, we have state-of-the-art facilities. The surgery performed was of complex nature as the patient was having a giant haemangioma, which is a tumour of almost 10 cm length.
It was situated between two major vessels and posed a challenge. However, we successfully conducted the surgery,” he said.
Unit head of Manipal Hospital Surendra Jasti and others were present.
