Milaap, India’s largest crowd funding site for personal and social causes has so far supported over 50,000 personal and social causes and has enabled people to pursue philanthropy. Milaap has been instrumental in raising funds for several campaigns, one of which was for an 8 month old rape victim.
One of the most discussed case last year in Delhi was when, the nation woke up to the news of the heinous crime committed in Delhi to an 8-month old child. The child was raped by her 28 year old cousin. Her parents were daily wage earner who kept their child with the cousin while they are away at work little realizing that he will be the perpetrator rather than a protector. When the child was bought to the hospital her condition was horrific and critical. The government gave the victim’s family Rs 50,000/- which was not enough to sustain the victim and carry on the expensive operation required to keep the child alive. They needed around $15000 for the treatment. Sunita Deshpande started the campaign on Milaap to raise the fund to save the child. The campaign received tremendous support not only in India but from other countries like US, Finland etc. They were able to raise close $18,000. The father of the child said “I just do not have words to thank all of you for the overwhelming love and support that you have shown towards my daughter. Your support gave us to strength to pass through this difficult time. I would like to convey a hearty thanks to Ms. Sunita Deshpande and who initiated this crowd funding campaign and Swatiji from DCW who supported us and acted as a pillar with us through the journey. I just want her to get better and feel that she is secure and her family is going to be there to support her whenever she looks back. I will send her to the best school possible. I will be withdrawing the funds raised on Milaap to my account and all the fund raised via this campaign will be used to support her treatment. With a community of over 100,000, the key focus of Milaap is to build a transparent and trusted platform as the leaders of crowd funding. To maintain the trust and safety of donors, latest technology and partnering is used with trusted payment gateways to protect donors’ data.
