Pune: On the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2016, MIT School of Telecom Management (MITSOT) presented the MITSOT Startup Awards to those startups who have leveraged ICT & made an Impact in their respective domain. Present at this occasion were Chief Guest A.G. Rao, Group Managing Director, Manpower Group, Guest of Honor, Dr. Girish Chowdhary, Director and Professor, School of Computational Science, SRTM University, Nanded, Hemant Joshi, Telecom, Media and Technology Leader, Deloitte India, Pritam Parvatkar, Senior Vice President and Global Head- Alliances and Partnerships, Tech Mahindra and Dr. Milind Pande, Project Director, MITSOT. This ninth consecutive year of World Telecom Day & MITSOT Startup Awards found itself sharing the same vision as of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi to enhance and boost the startup ecosystem. The recipients of the awards this year were CodersTrust, VRLab Technologies, Classboat.com, Fundamentor, NCORD Healtchare, Farmer Org, Fizzible.com, Nysa Infotech and BlueRadianz.
The theme of this year’s World Telecommunication and Information Society Day was “ICT Entrepreneurship for INDIA Impact”. In order to boost, enhance the ecology of Startups and focus on the Challenges & Opportunities for Indian Startups a panel discussion was also organized. This aimed at educating the students & other startup participants about how one should take advantage of the current environment which is conducive for the growth of the startup industry and how to conceptualize an idea into something that is beneficial socially and monetarily as well as easily applicable. The panelists included Pradnya Godbole, CEO, deAsra Foundation, Altaf Rehmani, Founder, Pune Angels Network, Vikrant Bhujbalrao, Head Evangelist, 111 Startups, and Prof. Manish Patil, Director, MIT Pune Technology Business Incubator (TBI). The panel discussion was moderated by Rishi Kapal, Chief Executive, EduGuild. The panel discussion concluded that any startup should have a clear and applicable concept, should be adept with understanding & meeting with demands of the market, and should have an excellent team to ensure the growth of the startup. The panelists also shared information about how a person with a startup idea could approach the foundations represented by the panelists and look for appropriate guidance and monetary support from the market. The discussion also focused on the growth of startups in Pune and how Pune can be a hotbed for the startup industry.
The Chief Guest, A.G. Rao explained said Telecom and IT industry holds immense potential for the growth of startups. Staying updated with the technological developments was the need for the hour as soon the world would be engulfed by technology.
In his Keynote address the Guest of Honor, Dr. Girish Chowdhary, said that anyone with an applicable idea irrelevant of his/her educational background, class or interest, should seek for the right guidance as they could be faced with challenges. But the vital role here is played by the statistics of the market. One, who knows the market, would definitely do well. Francesco Stasi, Head of Operation – India, CodersTrust and Prakash Loharkar & Kirti Singh of NCORD Healthcare presented case studies to emphasize how each startup faces different difficulties at the start. And how overcoming them and striving hard in the direction of success is a part of entrepreneurship.
