Papa CJ, the first Indian to win “Asia’s Best Stand-up Comedian” award in Kuala Lumpur


India (Nov. 18, 2014): On 21 Nov 2014, Papa CJ will receive the award for ‘Asia’s Best Stand-up Comedian’ at the 2nd Top Asian Corporate Ball 2014 in Kuala Lumpur. Papa CJ, who considers himself to be an ‘Ambassador of Happiness’ and in the happiness business as opposed to the comedy business, is the First Indian to be receiving this honor.

The Top Asian Corporate Ball 2014 celebrates the achievements of towering personalities, corporations and even countries in Asia and is done in association with Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia and Ministry of International Trade and Industry Malaysia. The award recognizes inspiring achievers from diverse cultures and industries.

During the Corporate Ball, eight countries will be given recognitions based on the results of recent Top 10 surveys for the categories of Asia’s Top Nation for Academic Advancement, Asia’s Best Island Nation Destination, Fastest Economic Growth Nation in Asia, Asia’s Leading Corporate Social Responsibility Nation, Asia’s Most Inspiring Platform for Business Talents, Asia’s Best Nation in Agro-Industry Development, Asia’s Most Attractive Nation for Manufacturing, Asia’s Most Attractive Medical Tourism Destination and Asia’s Most Liveable Nation. Papa CJ was featured in the Top 10 of Asia publication following a research survey carried out by the magazine in connection with Asia’s Top Comedians

This Award marks the remarkable journey of Papa CJ as he completes 10 years as a professional stand-up comedian on 29 Oct 2014. On his 10th anniversary, he performed in front of 9000 people in the full house Stadium Putra in Kuala Lumpur. This was as a part of Malaysian comedian Harith Iskander’s ‘To Know Malaysia is to Laugh Malaysia’ initiative, which looked at uniting Malaysians in laughter at the end of what has been a difficult year for the country.

Papa CJ’s mission is to create laughter and happiness in the lives of others and help them realise their dreams. His focus on spreading happiness has led him to do free shows in hospitals across the world. He founded a charity, One Child, that educates underprivileged children in India. Along with members of his comedy company, he also does free shows for the Armed Forces of India. Additionally this Oxford MBA is a motivational speaker and executive coach who inspires college students and coaches corporate executives in many countries. He is also a trained Laughter Yoga instructor.

Papa CJ is one of, if not the most experienced, versatile and internationally renowned comedian from India. He has done over 2000 shows in countries including USA, Canada, UK, South Africa, Australia, France, Indonesia, Netherlands, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Maldives, Malta and Ireland. In 2008 he made it to the top 10 on NBC’s TV show Last Comic Standing which featured over 3000 comedians from all over the world. In 2011 Toastmaster International featured him as ‘one of the most influential comedians around the world’. In 2012 the event and entertainment industry gave him an award for the ‘Best Stand-up Comedian in India’.

Papa CJ started his comedy career in London in 2004 and kicked off the English language comedy circuit in India when he launched open mic nights in Delhi in mid-2009. He has since performed at every kind of private and corporate event imaginable and at venues including planes, trains and automobiles. He has even performed at gunpoint in South Africa.
