Pune (Dec. 16, 2014): Stars of Indian film industry Ajay Devgn and Kajol, have come together to extend their support towards the cause of creating awareness of ‘Breast Cancer’ which is one of the most deadly diseases of modern times. Finolex Industries, through its CSR partner Mukul Madhav Foundation has come in support of ‘Prashanti’ (A cancer care foundation) to host its 3rd Annual OurMarathon 2014.

As a first step in the marathon against Breast Cancer, all the women participants will be given FREE mammograms. Mammography van of Prashanti Cancer Care Mission would be made available at the venue for all those who wish to get their test done.

Finolex Pipes through its CSR partner Mukul Madhav Foundation and with the help of Prashanti Cancer Care Mission has been conducting free mammography tests in the interior villages of Ratnagiri. Camps conducted brought into light that women of Ratnagiri were forced to travel to distant places like Kolhapur or Mumbai to get a mammography test done. Understanding this need Finolex Pipes set up a mammography machine at Parkar Hospital, Ratnagiri after which women of Ratnagiri are able to avail this facility without travelling miles.

According to recent reports, with 1.5 lakh new cases being detected every year, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer identified among women today and contributes to almost 30% of the total number of cancer cases registered in India. Also, around 48% of the women identified do not survive this fight.

“Despite of very good prognosis in breast cancer which is as high as 93% to 100%, the number of women dying of this disease is rising every year, the main cause being late detection. Being aware of early signs and symptoms of breast cancer can help in fighting this deadly disease. Thus raising awareness about breast cancer has become essential in India.

Mr. Prakash Chhabria, Executive Chairman of Finolex Pipes stated that Finolex Industries and MukulMadhav Foundation, pledges its support to this noble initiative of Prashanti Cancer Care Mission by all possible means. Finolex Industries’ participation in the event has not been restricted to just sponsorship but also Finolex employees come forward to join the marathon every year.
