IT and BPO sector see a decline in hiring in October’14

Pune (Nov. 17, 2014): The Naukri Job Speak Index for the month of October2014for Pune was at 1434 indicating a16%increase in hiring activity when compared to October 2013. Sectors such as Insurance and Pharma saw maximum decline of 23% and 22% respectively in October’14 as compared to September’14.

V Suresh, Executive Vice President and Chief Sales Officer,Naukri.com said, “The city has witnessed a dip in hiring activity primarily due to the festive season.The Overall sentiments are positive and we can expect hiring to gain momentum in the coming months”.

 

Industry Sector Analysis:
An in depth analysis reveals that apart from Insurance and Pharma, other key sectors like IT and BPO have seen a month on month  decline of 16% and 17%  respectively in the index in October’14. Banking and Auto sector have also moved downwards with the index waning by 21% and 17% in October ’14 as compared to September’14.  Telecom and Construction & Engineering sectors have also experienced a dip with the index going down by 20% and 19% respectively in the same period.

Other sector such as Oil & Gas has seen a decline with the index moving down by 15 % while Media sector has seen decline of 13% in hiring activity in October’14 over September’14.

Functional Area Analysis:
The demand for professionals working in Banking & Insurance and Production Maintenance saw   maximum dip in hiring with the index moving down by 29% and 28% respectively in October’14 over September’14. Professionals employed in the Marketing & Advertising and Sales & Business Development also witnessed a month on month decline in hiring (as represented by the Naukri Job Speak Index) of about 21% in October’14.
