Royal Rumbel (2017) “Remember the Rumble” the most anticipated event at the beginning of 2017 unfolded on 29th Jan 2017 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. This action packed 30th event under the Royal Rumble title had eight matches. The matches contested at the event were WWE Championship, WWE Universal Championship, RAW Women’s Championship, WWE Cruiserweight Championship and three pre-show matches.
The pre-show showcased the six-women tag team match, where Becky, Bella & Naomi went against SmackDown Women’s Champion Bliss, Mickie & Natalya. Naomi performed a split-legged moonsault on Bliss, pinning her and making a win.
The second match had Cesaro and Sheamus defending the RAW Tag Team Championship against Gallows and Anderson. Lastly, Nia Jax had a match with Sasha Banks; Jax won the fight after performing Pop UP Samoun Drop on Banks.
The preliminary matches commenced with a blast where Charlotte Flair defended the RAW Women’s Championship title against Bayley by pinning her down with Natural Selection move.
The second contested match featured Kevin Owens defending the WWE Universal Championship against Roman Regas in a No Disqualification Match. In the WWE Cruiserweight Championship, Neville won the title by forcing defending champion Swann to submit to a DoubleUnderhook Crossface.
Concluding the preliminary matches segment, Jhon Cena won the WWE Championship title by defeating AJ Styles the defending champion with Cena’s Attitude Adjustment move.
The main event of Royal Rumbel (2017) kick started with Big Cass and Christ Jerico entering the 30-man Royal Rumble match’s ring. This ring witnessed the much hyped-up rivalry between Brock Lesner and Goldberg; where Lesner got eliminated by Goldberg. But before going down Lesner eliminated Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler, and Enzo Amore. Goldberg also eliminated Rusev and Luke Harper, but his momentum was wrecked by The Undertaker who eliminated him as well as Baron Corbin, The Miz, and Sami Zayn. The Undertaker got himself eliminated by Roman Reigns.
Braun Strowman grabbed the most eliminations; eliminating Cass, Kalisto, Big Show, Mark Henry, NXT’s Tye Dillinger, Mojo Rawley, and James Ellsworth bring the headcount to seven but his elimination spree got cut short by Baron Corbin.
The final four left in the rig were Jericho, Bray Wyatt, Randy Orton, and Reigns. Reigns eliminated Jericho and with his Superman Punch Reigns countered Wyatt’s Sister Abigail move resulting in Wyatt’s elimination. Randy Orton won the match by countering Reigns attempted Spear with an RKO and eliminating Reigns.
Randy Orton became a two-time Rumble winner, and the seventh wrestler to win multiple Rumbles. This win makes him eligible for a world championship match at WrestleMania 33 for either Raw’s WWE Universal Championship or SmackDown’s WWE Championship.
