Pune, March 15th 2018: Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company, has always adopted a focused approach towards women empowerment by implementing various programmes for women living in and around its areas of operation. In line with this commitment, Tata Power organised vocational trainings in Mulshi to provide the local community women with economic independence and better financial security.
The objective of the initiative was to help women achieve a better economic status for themselves as well as for their families. The program offered training in activities like tailoring, beautician training, art and crafts, product manufacturing, assistant nursing training, etc. The initiative saw the enthusiastic participation of many local women. Post the training, there was a 100% placement of the 92 participating women who had enrolled themselves for the assistant nursing training.
Talking about the initiative, Mr. Ashok Sethi, Executive Director and COO, Tata Power, said, “When it comes to the safety and security of women, Tata Power has always come up with projects that empower women by making them economically and socially stronger. The vocational training initiatives will fillip Tata Power’s efforts towards the cause by encouraging more and more women to be a part of it.”
Several women have already benefitted from these programs. One such success story is of Manisha Chandrakant Walhekar, a 19-year-old tribal girl from Mulshi, who, after completing the Assistant nursing course. now works as an Assistant nurse at Krishna Hospital in Pune.
Tata Power is working towards creating more such platforms that will encourage women to be independent on the financial as well as social levels.
