Vijayawada: Tata Trusts has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh (GOAP) to work towards community empowerment and improve the overall quality of living through an integrated multi-thematic approach in the region. The programme intends to implement interventions in the thematic areas of bamboo cultivation, fisheries, nutrition and fortification, along with microplanning and village development based on the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna (SAGY).
The thematic areas of the programme will focus on promoting bamboo as a livelihood crop to improve the income of farmers. With a focus on marine fisheries, a comprehensive aquaculture development model will be worked out to enhance the livelihood of small and marginal fishermen. Using the government’s feeding and distribution programmes like Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Mid-day meal and Public distribution system (PDS) as delivery channels, the collaboration will also target micronutrient deficiencies like anemia.
Chief Minister, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu said: “I’m delighted that Tata Trusts is partnering with Andhra Pradesh by developing 264 villages. This is the first time such a huge number of villages are being adopted. This will set an example in the country as it will be mentored by Industry Titan Ratan Tata. I’m impressed with the background work and research Tata Trusts has done on these villages. The Government will work with Tata Trusts in Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, Backward Classes Welfare, Consumer Affairs Fool & Civil Supplies, Environment, Forests, Health, Medical & Family Welfare, Industries and Commerce, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, Planning, Social Welfare, Women Development, Child Welfare and Disable Welfare, etc. and key projects such as NRLM, MGNREGA, NRHM and SAGY.”
Mr. R Venkataramanan, Executive Trustee, Tata Trusts, said, “We will support the state and administrative bodies in implementation of the multi-thematic development plans in 264 villages in the Vijayawada constituency post the micro planning process. In collaboration with the GOAP, we will develop model villages on the lines of the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana with innovation and technology as key components, with a broad framework of enhancing social security and infrastructure development through implementation of central and state-level schemes, improved drinking water and sanitation systems and several livelihood enhancement programmes.”
An adequately staffed Programme Management Unit (PMU) will be set up to ensure effective and timely implementation of the proposed multi-thematic plans. The detailed scope and implementation strategy will be arrived at jointly by the Planning Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh and Tata Trusts. The State Government will take forward the successful interventions and upscale them appropriately.
