Arsenal vs. Milan
Two-time UEFA Europa League winners Atlético Madrid continue their pursuit of a record-equalling third triumph with a visit to Lokomotiv Moskva, having defeated the Russian Premier League leaders 3-0 at home in the first leg. Lokomotiv have won just two of eight matches against Spanish opposition in Moscow, most famously defeating Real Madrid 2-0 in 2001/02 season. The odds are stacked heavily against the Russian side to upset Atletico even in their own backyard with a deficit of three goals as they have only once recovered to win a European tie after an away defeat in the first leg – in a 2003/04 qualifier against Shakhtar Donetsk. This should ideally be a cakewalk for Simeone’s side who have won 29 of the 36 UEFA competition ties in which they have prevailed in the home first leg – including all of the last 17.
Arsenal emerged as a supreme side in the first leg of Europe’s traditional heavyweight clubs, emerging from a form slump to beat AC Milan 2-0 at San Siro. The Gunners must now play to their abilities and recent form to ensure their presence in the quarter-finals of this league as they are the lone club from England in Europa. Milan seems to be a underdog in this tie as they have been a poor traveller to England, they have just managed a sole victory in 16 matches on English soil, losing on nine occasions and failing to score on their last three visits. Sixth in Italy last term, Milan are back in Europe after a four-year absence and are making their first appearance in the UEFA Europa League.
