Pune, 4 December, 2018: Pune city seems to be all set for the inaugural Bajaj Allianz Pune Half Marathon (PHM), scheduled on 9 December, 2018 (Sunday). Punekars and others around the country have been training hard for this day, alolng with Run S.M.A.R.T. Project to make the event the only long-distance race in the country to provide individualised training for it. Celebrities, other dignitaries and citizens have joined hands to promote “wellness”, the central theme for the event. The police department and the city’s municipality have their blueprint in place to ensure a hassle-free run for everyone on Sunday.
Bajaj Allianz PHM is also among the few Athletics Federation of India (AFI) approved races, and the racecourse is certified by AIMS, therefore making the timing certificate meet requirements of other major races.
The Half Marathon (21.1 km) and the 10 km runs are for those who run on a regular basis. The key highlight of the event is The Family Run, a 6 km run, where familes are being encouraged to come together and run together. The organisers have targeted the Family Run towards children and adolescents with the objective to inculcate the concept of wellness in families and children. The Family Run truly becomes more fun as particiapants can sport their favourite costumes, run in themed attires, with props and more. Making it truly a carnival-themed run.
There are two special categories — Commissioner’s Cup and Mayor’s Cup — for the participants from the police and the municipality departments respectively.
“The idea of Commissioner’s Cup and Mayor’s Cup is to promote the concept of wellness within the police and the municipality departments. It’s also to recognise and acknowledge their massive contribution in the smooth functioning of our society. How about we sit in the audience for once and cheer for the authorities responsible for the city’s smooth functioning?” said Vikas Singh, CEO, APG Running, the organisers for the event.
Speaking at making Bajaj Allianz Pune Half Marathon a success, Mr. Chandramohan Mehra, Chief Marketing Officer, Bajaj Allianz, said, “An overwhelming response received to the inaugural edition of Bajaj Allianz Half Marathon is in line with our objective to fuel an inclusive fitnesss movement. We wish participants a memorable running experience and a happy start to sustained fitness routine even after the event.”
Prize money to be won
The running culture has significantly grown in India over the last many years. Not only more athletes are making the nation proud, but also we have seen city-based long-distance runs mushrooming. Bajaj Allianz PHM lends a hand further to this cause to promote running in the country. The event will see contestants across the country participate and has received responses from the rural regions as well. The prize money of INR 21.5 lakhs will be won by the runners.
Massive response to the training leg
Pune lived up to its reputation of being India’s fittest city as the training leg of the event saw an enormous response, and it will continue to peak, as Sunday approaches. As aforementioned, Bajaj Allianz PHM is the only long-distance run in the country that provided its participants with free customised training plans.
The programs are designed by Dr Jack Daniels, popularly known as World’s Best Running Coach, from The RUN S.M.A.R.T Project. Dr Daniels had personally addressed the participants in India and unveiled the event in the month of October. Ryan Hall, the legendary American long-distance runner, is the brand ambassador for the event. He will be present at the event along with his wife, Sara, another champion runner from United States of America. Mandira Bedi will host the marathon.
