Environment, Wildlife, Energy, Air and Water. It presents the members with an opportunity to evolve together, on a
common platform and work together towards preserving nature. This year’s theme is ‘Save River, Save Life’: Rivers are crucial for our existence and the onus is on us to protect
them. However, the current condition of rivers in India is known to all, simply pathetic. Urbanization, toxic waste,
industrial waste, urban waste and our own negligence are responsible for this pollution. KVIFF, therefore, wishes to
address factors such as pollution, rejuvenation, biodiversity, beautification and purification of rivers. It’d also seek to
reset our relationship with rivers on more positive, healthy, realistic, practical and sustainable terms, and restore
back the Dissolved Oxygen (DO) level up to 8 ppm. Scope of the theme World – Asia – India – Maharashtra – Pune Our message for the festival remains, ‘Preserve, Protect, Save the Earth for Generation Next.’ We are happy to announce Kirloskar Vasundhara Sanman to Dr. Vikas Amte.
Dr. Vikas Amte: He is an innovative scientist by knowledge, a create researcher by need, a developed
environmental entrepreneur by trade, a liberated management executive by profession, a genuine
financier by intelligence, a sincere social worker by roots, and a learned physician by education. The work
done by Dr. Vikas Amte is not limited to social work done in Anandwan, the community set up by Baba
Amte in 1948 for leprosy patients on the outskirts of Warora in Chandrapur district in Maharashtra. He is
an environmentalist and an engineer at heart. He has dug number of lakes which solved the water scarcity
problem in Anandwan and Somnath. The region receives very low rain fall but almost all rainwater is saved
into these lakes. Under his leadership his team collected all types of plastic waste, cleaned it, and
shredded it. He has done innovative ideas with this plastic such as building up the spill over dams with
waste truck tyres (which are thrown away), concrete and shredded waste plastic, making strong bricks out
of it, using it in foundation of building construction to increase its strength, constructing roads from it. He
creates beautiful artistic gift items and greeting cards out of waste material. In and around Anandwan,
there are number of mines which are now closed but left open. Dr. Amte with his team, planted
indigenous trees, shrubs and herbs and created a lush green jungle there. Now it is a home for birds,
insects, reptiles and different animals. Again it gives revenue to Anandwan.
