The 17th edition of Shaniwarwada Dance & Music festival, a blend of mucis, ghungaroos, rhythm, beats and lights will take place on Sunday, February 25, 2018, 6:30 pm onwards at the historic Shaniwarwada. This year ‘Shri Ranga — The Reclining Lord’ will be performed by Pavitra Bhatt & group and ‘Gotipua Dance’ choreographed & directed by Guru Bijay Kumar Sahoo performed by disciple of Nakshyatra Gurukul will be the special attraction of the festival. This was announced by Sabina Sanghvi, the Chairperson of The Shaniwarwada Dance & Music Festival Committee.
The passes of the festival will be available from February 16th to 24th at Balgandharva Rangmandir, Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruh, Tilak Smarak Mandir, DVD Express – Aundh and The O Hotel – Koregaon Park. The passes will also be available at the venue from 11.00 am on the day of the event. The passes will cost Rs. 250 only, seating on a first come first serve basis. One can also book online through the Book My Show website.
The event will commence with ‘Shri Ranga — The Reclining Lord’ performed by well-known bharatnatyam dancer Pavitra Bhatt along with his group. A recipient of innumerable awards, Pavitra Bhat has conducted Bharatanatyam workshops in India and Abroad. The performance Shri Ranga shows the journey of a devotee from the sacred river Kaveri to Lord Ranganatha of Shri Rangam in current state of Tamil Nadu. As the devotee enters the shrine. He is welcomed by the powerful Garuda the golden bird whose permission is necessary before meeting Vishnu.
This will be followed by the Gotipua Dance presented by disciples of Nakshyatra Gurukul which is one of the young organizations working in the field of Gotipua Dance. Nakshyatra Gurukul was established in year 2007 at Bhubaneswar by its founder director, Guru Bijay Kumar Sahoo. Gotipua- the precursor to Odissi dance- is performed by boys dressed in female garbs and costumes. The word “Gotipua” literally means “Goti” that is one “Pua” that is boy in Odia. The dancer strikes intricate bandha (acrobatic) postures.
The Gotipua dance will be performed by Umesh Chandra Barik, Sabyasachi Sahoo, Jagmohan Sahoo, Kunal Pradhan, Anant Jena, Abhisek Sahoo, Aman Pradhan and Pabitra Sahoo. The Puneites will get a chance to witness this spectacular dance form for the first time.
This year the festival will be supported by Panchshil Realty as the title sponsors. 5F World, Weikfield, More Mischief, Radio One, The O Hotel and Pure Gold Fine Chocolate will be Associate Sponsors of the event.
