All 36 district chapters of MOA participated in the event in various capacity. This was the first time any state chapter has coordinated and conducted such a statewide event for benefit of public. This was done under the able guidance of President of MOA Dr Parag Sancheti of Sancheti Hospital, Pune and MOA Secretary Dr Prakash Sigedar from Jalna. Presidents and secretaries of all 36 district chapters of MOA were the flagbearers of these event and coordinated and organized events in their respective districts. MOA has 1614 members and all members participated with full enthusiasm. The members served voluntarily and devoted at least 6 hours on 1st May to guide the common public about health problems, orthopedic problems and how to overcome these problems. Other programs that were conducted were BMD Camps, blood donation camps, distribution of road safety pamphlets, tree plantation, distribution of Jaipur foot and radio talks. Most district associations organized their own programs but individual members also participated in their personal capacity by organizing free opd camps in their personal clinics and hospitals.
A total of more than 13500 patients received free OPD Consultation with an charity of approximately of Rs 40 Lakhs and more than 5600 attended the public awareness camps. Major Camps were conducted in Pune, Mumbai, Nashik, Jalna, Aurangabad, Thane, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, Ahmednagar, Nagpur, Tembhurni, Latur, Beed, Amravati, Solapur, Dhule, Nandurbar, Akola, Chandrapur and many more at city and town levels. Many individual surgeons and smaller groups have also participated in the event to make it widely successful. Many events were organized taking help of local bodies like Indian Medical Association, rotary clubs and other social organizations. Events were not only held on 1st May but were celebrated through the entire week across the state as MOA week events.
The entire concept was envisioned as a social responsibility of a state level body of health professional. Maharashtra Orthopaedic Association and its members displayed that they care for the society and will participate wholeheartedly in building a healthier and safer Maharashtra. Recently there have been many news of divide between doctors and patients, MOA day is one such attempt to close this divide and create a strong but caring relationship between doctors and patients. The public awareness lectures are aimed to educate the general public and also help them aware about road safety protocols, wearing of helmets and importance of golden hour. This will help us in making our roads safer and better equip general public to deal with road accidents.
We like to thank all the MOA Executive committee members, presidents & secretaries of all district associations and every member of MOA to make this event a hugely successful one. We will also like to thank the media for excellent coverage of the event which will further help in creating awareness about MOA day and concept. We will be celebrating MOA day every year as our continued commitment to improve doctor – public relationship in Maharashtra
