Pune: Lila Poonawalla Foundation (LPF) introduced its school scholarships for girls of VII standard in 2011 under the ‘2morrow 2gether’ school project. This is the 5th batch under this project. The Lila Poonawalla Foundation held its scholarship award function on Wednesday, 8th July 2015, at the Alpa Bachat hall. The Chief Guest of this function Ms. Lakshmi Kumar, Founder and Director of Orchid School and the Guest of Honor Mr. Fredy Hutter, Vice Chairman and Executive Director of Biltema Foundation Sweden handed over the scholarships to 212 school girls.
Apart from the 11 schools that LPF has already been supporting, this year celebrating it 20th year, LPF extended its support to 3 more schools. A Zilla Parishad school in Chandoli, Zilla Parishad School in Thorandale and Shri Ram Vidyalaya in Pimpalgaon all in Manchar. Mrs. Lila Poonawalla, the Chairperson in her welcome address thanked Mr. Hutter for the unconditional support given by Biltema for this project and also thanked Ms. Kumar for the support this project was receiving from orchid school. She informed that with the addition of these 212 new Lila Juniors the total number of girls under this program increased to 754. All these girls will continue to receive the LPF scholarship every year up to their graduation. This is a long commitment for 10 years to each girl. Indeed a very unique program.
These girls are not only supported financially for their fees, uniforms, shoes, sweaters, raincoats, school bags, books etc, but are also given health education, extra coaching, counselling, creativity building activities, etc. to groom them to become confident young ladies.
She was very happy and excited to inform the audience that the 1st batch selected under the 2morrow 2gether’ school project started in 2011, had 100% result with more than 70 % girls scoring above 70% marks including girls from rural areas.
