Jakarta: Indonesia capital Jakarta was rocked by multiple blasts on Thursday morning, leaving at least four dead. Also, 10-14 gunmen are said to be on the run and are being engaged by the police.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that there have been at least six explosions, all in central Jakarta, very near to the United Nations office.
The biggest of the explosions occurred near a Starbucks Cafe, close to a shopping centre called the Sarinah mall along the busy Jalan Thamrin.
Media reports claimed that bodies are lying around the site. Sketchy details emerging out of Jakarta added that a police officer is among those dead even as the police are trying to locate the terrorists.
News wire AFP reports that a police post in the centre of the city was damaged by several bomb blasts and at least three casualties were seen in the street.
“Four people died, one police officer and three civilians,” national police spokesman Anton Charliyan told AFP.
“For now the gunfire has stopped but they are still on the run, we are afraid there will be more gunshots.”
Local media reports now claim that more explosions are being reported from other parts of the city.
