A Colorful Enchanting Teeyan Da Mela Organized by Punjabi American Organization, Chicago

Chicago IL: Punjabi American Organization (PAO) organized , their 11th annual, a hit event in Midwest region “Teeyan Da Mela for on Sunday, July, 2015 at Bristol Palace Banquet in Mt Prospect. It is a great honor and proud for Punjabi American Organization to host ‘Teeyan Da Mela’ for all the ladies in Midwest Region of Great America as this is the only one event which is “Ladies only” where even the very shy ladies come forward and show their hidden talent without any hesitant.Teeyan is such a honorable word in Punjabi Culture which give a great respect to women as mother/ daughter/ daughter-in-law to bid the families together.

This year event took place under the guidance of Naiha Walia, President of PAO. Naiha Walia is a member of PAO from the time this organization started. She is the first youngest lady President of any organization in Midwest Area. PAO is very proud of honoring a young lady with such a honorable title, so that ladies not only serve our community but also teach our culture in their homes. Bravo to PAO who are providing this honor and appreciation to women every year on behalf of their families and this universe.

More than 600 ladies overcrowded this event. The event hall was over packed with ladies and children dressed in colorful Indian clothes. This year PAO brought ‘Mrs Punjaban contest. Each and every participant did great job during this contest that audience felt like they are sitting and watching Miss Universe contest. Mrs Pamil Preet Dhillon won the crown and Mrs Raman Dhaliwal got 1st runner-up award. Mrs Mandeep Mann, winner of ” Shaunkan Mele Dee” crowned the winner and Gugani Gill, winner of Mrs Punjaban-Canada, crowned the runner-up.

Organizing Committee welcomed the audience and thanked all the sponsors for their generous donations. The event started with the traditional Open dholki,where the audience were invited to the stage to participate in singing punjabi songs to keep up the punjabi tradition of celebration. Ladies felt like they just came back to their parents home and enjoying ‘Saun da mahina’ in a indian village. Then MC and Punjabi singer, Sunita Bhatti took the stage. She did amazing job to make this event memorable with her singing and MC ability to entertain the audience. Dance performances were performed by Hannah Singh, Simran Walia, Aarty Singla, Naina Singh, Maninder Chhabra and Sweta Bawa. Other local singers from Midwest region- Mrs Pooja Dhaliwal, Mrs Mona Bhalla, Simran K. Dhaliwal and Mona Sharma showed their singing talent on the stage too.

Fashion show is the other aspect of Teeyan da Mela which ladies look forward every year. This year fashion show was sponsored by Richa from getethnic.com, co-ordinated by Neha Walia. Audience was stunned by various outfits showcased in this fashion show. All the models were local participants who did amaing job. Showstopper, Yashpreet Singh, looked like Princess Jasmine come to life.

Gidha coordinated by Anshu Paul won all the audience heart. Audience was so amazed with such an professional item. One lady commented-” Gidha seemed to me as I am looking at a gidha contest performance on TV. Wonderful. Mrs Punjaban was so good. Fashion show models looked so amazing in their very modern outfit. The main girl look like an angle from fairy tale. Every thing was just breathe taking. Loved the show.”

At the climax of this event, almost all ladies and girls who attended “Teeyan Da Mela” were on “Gidha floor” and were a truly enjoyed and thrilled by everyone with Sunita Bhatti giving her heart in encouraging the audience with numerous Bolian, followed by DJ. It was the hard work of board members of PAO to see all ladies on Dance Floor dancing away and enjoy this sunny summer Sunday.

Punjabi Americans Organization aims to promote unity and progress of all Punjabi Indian-Americans. Main purpose of organizing this type of event is to expose women by bringing them out to the outside world from their routine house hold work, offer an opportunity to meet with the community and pass time with amusement and joy, wearing dresses of their choices.

Organizers decorated the event hall with Punjabi dupattas, saris, and other traditional punjabi dresses as well as with colorful clothes, flowers, and garlands. It appeared like a rainbow spread across everywhere in the event hall. The gathering of huge crowds around the stalls of henna, bangles, facial makeup, and Indian dresses really gave the feeling of traditional Indian fair. As soon as attendees entered the event hall, the decorated swing caught the eyes of every one and reminded them of their beautiful past. There were different stalls for Mehndi, Jewelery, Gift Items, Punjabi Suits and Kurtis. In addition to gidha, dholki, singing and dancing with live music, delicious Indian snacks and delicious gourmet lunch was served.

There kind of shows can take place with the finacial support from community and local business. This year Chief Guest was Mrs Satwant Kaur Kaler and Grand sponsor was Jasmeet Suga- Suga Builders. Other Gold Sponsors were- Amrita Dandona, Amardeep Lamba Agency and Marybeth and Greg Cerniglia- S&C Insurnace. All other sponsors who are supporting this event from years were- Minni and Guljar Multani, Manjit and Gurdev Pelia from Pelia Petroleum, Rahul Jain from Mast Masala, Jesse Singh Remax Realtor, Renee and Nick Gakhal, Kalsi construction company, Punjab sports and cultural club, Parminder Kaur, Davinder Kaur, Varinder Kaur, Gundeep Kaur, Punjab Sports Club.

Food was catered by Maharaja Restaurant.

Organizing team did excellent job by putting in tireless efforts, Kudos to All. “Teaching people that women are capable of having fun, very capable of doing everything in life – Earning, Taking care of Family, Getting involved with other things in the Community, Helping in every part of life.”– One must say seeing this show performed, executed by Ladies.
