Paris: Altran Spain, a company of the Altran Group, global leader in Innovation and hi-tech engineering consulting, has developed in collaboration with the Centre de Telecomunicacions i Tecnologies de la Informació (CTTI) the application Mobile coverage, an initiative sponsored by the Managing Direction of Telecommunications and Society of the Information of the Generalitat de Catalunya, and which was launched at the Mobile World Congress 2015.
Mobile coverage is a project that draws on citizen participation to generate a real time coverage map of all mobile networks in Catalonia to identify the geographic areas that need to improve their coverage. The map is developed by users that have willingly downloaded and installed the application, which record the coverage data while they move and send it to a server.
Combining all the data harvested from different terminals, which are anonymously treated, the application draws a real time coverage map which is available on mobile devices and the web. This map allows the user to know the status of the mobile telephone networks throughout the geographic area and it accurately locates those areas that need an action or an improvement. This way, the map will be more detailed as more people participate, making it more reliable in the detection of areas which need to improve their coverage.
