Pune: Apollo Clinic- a complete primary healthcare destination, Recently organized multiple walkathons across neighborhoods where Apollo Clinics are located, across the city, to spread awareness on cancer. The walkers assembled in Viman Nagar, Aundh, Wanowrie, Nigdi/Pimpri Chinchwad with bands, caps and slogan boards carrying impactful messages and helpful tips on leading a cancer free life.
Speaking on the occasion, renowned Surgeon from Apollo Clinic, Dr.Deepak Kulkarni said, “The cancers that most often affect women are breast cancer. Awareness about these cancers and early detection may help save one’s life, 13% of cancers in women (uterine cervix) can be screened and prevented and 9% of cancer in women can be detected early and treated”, he added.
Highlighting the magnitude of problem he said, “Unfortunately most women remain uninformed about the importance of regular checkups and early diagnosis. About 10 lakh new cancers are detected annually in India, with around 6.5lakh people losing their lives each year. The alarming trend in recent times is the increase in the detection of these cancers in the younger age group”.
Commenting on the walkathon, Mr Neeraj Garg, CEO, Apollo Health and Lifestyle Limited said, “Cancer is one of the most common causes of death in women. Apollo Clinic pledges to create increased awareness about the importance of early diagnosis and regular checkup. This initiative by Apollo Clinic helps raise awareness among the general public. I am very happy to see Pune participate and I wish to thank each and every one for acting as a social influence to help fight cancer.”
There was an extremely active participation from Pune with a turnout of about 600 people. The participants from all walks of life came together, to spread the message with Apollo Clinic on the importance of promoting the importance of early detection and provide support to men & women who are newly diagnosed or facing recurrence of cancer.
