Pune: Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal, organizers of the iconic Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav have revealed the list of the artists who would be performing the during festival this year. Shrinivas Joshi, Executive President of the Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal announced it during a Press Conference held in the city today. Spread across 5 days, this year the festival will take place between December 11th and 15th at the Sports Ground of the Maharashtriya Mandal at Mukund Nagar. Amit Modak, CEO, P. N. Gadgil and Sons, Atul Galande, Gokhale Constructions & Uday Pachpande, Buldhana Urban Cooperative Credit Society Limited Bank were also present.
This is the birth centenary year of Pt Firoz Dastur, Senior Disciple of Sawai Gandharva. To commemorate this occasion two disciples of Pt Dastur will be paying a tribute to him during the festival. Timings of the festival for first 3 days i.e. December 11th to 13th would be 4:00pm to 10:00pm, on 4th Day i.e. December 14th it would be 4:00pm to 12:00 midnight and for the concluding day it would be from 12:00noon to 10:00pm.
First day of the festival (December 11th) shall be begin with the performance of vocalist Girish Sanzgiri, senior disciple of Pt Firoz Dastur, which will be followed by Jayanthi Kumaresh (Carnatic style Veena). Subsequent to which Vocalist Archana Kanhere, disciple of Pandita Manik Varma will present her art. First day will conclude with the performance of Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia.
The second day (December 12th) of the Sawai Gandharv Bhimsen Mahotsav will commence with the performance of an artist from the Kirana Gharan Sandip Bhattacharjee, who is a disciple of Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan. Kedia Brothers (Mormukut and Manoj Kedia) from Jharkhand will have a joint performance Sitar and Sarod. Manjiri Karve Alegaonkar from Jaipur Gharana, disciple of Vamanrao Deshpande and celebrated Santoor player Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma will have performances thereafter.
Performance of Dhrupad Sisters Amita Sinha Mahapatra, Janhavi Phansalkar and Anuja Borude (Pakhwaj), disciples of acclaimed Gundecha Brothers will mark the beginning of day 3rd (December 13th). This will be followed by the performances of Viraj Joshi, disciple of Pt. Shrinivas Joshi and the grandson of Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi and Ken Zuckerman (Sarod). Ken who hails from Switzerland is the disciple of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. Day 3 will conclude with the performance of Veteran vocalist Sangeet Martand Pt Jasraj.
Vocalist Omkarnath Havaldar from Kirana Gharana who is the son of Pt. Nagraj Rao Havaldar will be the first artists to perform on Day 4 (December 14th). This will be followed by a joint performance of Tejas Upadhye (Violin) and Shakir Khan (Sitar). Swami Kripakarananda, from Varanasi who is a disciple of Pt. Jagdish Prasad will perform thereafter. Swami Kripakarananda is a Sanyasi from Ramkrishna Mission and has also obtained M.D. degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. Noted Odissi dancer Reela Hota will showcase her art thereafter. Veteran Vocalist from the Jaipur Gharana Pandita Ashwini Bhide Deshpande will be one of the highlights of this day. Day 4 will come to an end with the performance of senior violinist Pt. L. Subramaniam.
The 5th and the last day of the Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav will start with the art showcase of Vocalist from the Gwalior Gharana Atul Khandekar, who is a disciple of Veena Sahasrabuddhe. This will be followed by the performances of Ruchira Kedar (Disciple of Pt Ulhas Kashalkar) and Chadrashekhar Vaze (disciple of Pt Firoz Dastur). Well known Sitarist Niladri Kumar will enthral the audiences thereafter. Pt. Upendra Bhat (Senior Disciple of Bharat Ratna Pt Bhimsen Joshi) and Pt. Ajoy Chakrabarty, acclaimed vocalist from the Patiyala Gharana will have their performances. As per the tradition, the festival will end with the performance of Dr. Prabha Atre, a senior vocalist from the Kirana Gharana.
Artist who would be performing for the first time at the Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav include Sandip Bhattacharjee, Kedia Brothers, Dhrupad Sisters, Viraj Joshi, Omkarnath Havaldar, Tejas Upadhye, SwamiKripakarananda, Rila Hota, Atul Khandekar and Ruchira Kedar.
Ticket sale of the festival will start from December 1st, 9:00am onwards. Season ticket chair category would be available at Rs.4000/- and Rs.3000/-, whereas Indian Seating season ticket would be priced at Rs.499/-. Daily chair and Indian seating ticket would be available at Rs.850/- and Rs.200/- respectively.
