For decades, China has witnessed unprecedented economic growth and has successfully lifted millions from poverty. However, the recent slowdown in growth and turbulence in markets has many asking about the country’s economic health and implications for the Asia-Pacific region and the world at large. Asia Society Policy Institute will host a special breakfast event with Liu Mingkang, former chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC), in conversation with Kevin Rudd, ASPI President. Professor Liu is uniquely qualified to speak on these issues, having held senior positions in China’s banking industry for more than 20 years, and serving as the first-ever chairman of the CBRC. Under his leadership, China implemented a series of reforms that helped to stabilize and modernize the Chinese banking industry.
