The industry produced a total 5,378,591 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers, two wheelers and quadricycle in April-May 2018 as against 4,670,687 in April-May 2017, registering a growth of 15.16 percent over the same period last year.
The sale of Passenger Vehicles grew by 13.28 percent in April-May 2018 over the same period last year. Within the Passenger Vehicles, the sales for Passenger Cars, Utility Vehicle & Vans grew by 11.77 percent, 14.71 percent and 24.11 percent respectively in April-May 2018 over the same period last year.
The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered a growth of 57.44 percent in April-May 2018 as compared to the same period last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) increased by 114.79 percent and Light Commercial Vehicles grew by 34.27 percent in April-May 2018 over the same period last year. However, this needs to be viewed in the backdrop of low base last year after change over from BSIII to BSIV.
Three Wheelers sales increased by 53.01 percent in April-May 2018 over the same period last year. Within the Three Wheelers, Passenger Carrier sales registered a growth of 64.31 percent and Goods Carrier grew by 19.34 percent in April-May 2018 over April-May 2017.
Two Wheelers sales registered a growth at 13.04 percent in April-May 2018 over April-May 2017. Within the Two Wheelers segment, Scooters, Motorcycles and Mopeds grew by 5.76 percent, 17.24 percent and 9.82 percent respectively in April-May 2018 over April-May 2017.
In April-May 2018, overall automobile exports grew by 24.03 percent. While Passenger Vehicles exports declined by (-) 6.45 percent, Commercial Vehicles, Three Wheelers and Two Wheelers registered a growth of 33.02 percent, 79.12 percent and 25.18 percent respectively in April-May 2018 over the same period last year.
