We stay , live , survive & grow in country where the society is male dominated at large extent & still today Women are blamed , banned , restricted to have their basic fundamental right is “Freedom”. Even though our country got freedom in 1947 the pre independence cultural is not completely washed-out from our democratic system.
Few funny facts about our cultural that we worship mother, sister, goddess durga & her all the forms but out saint divide our god , their power with gender discrimination & their blind followers follow them blindly. No one is ready to take stand against such discrimination & dominance behaviour of the society. I , firmly believe unless we do not stop treating women as second grade citizen , india as country will never grow & develop.
Most of the holy places are run & managed by the trustees or governing bodies & they are exercising their power as if they are “extra constitutional authorities” these people apply their own logic under religious belief. But what these dominators have forgotten this is the same god who made “MEN & WOMEN”
These prohibitions are serious violation of Articles 14 and 15 of our Constitution which provide every citizen the right to equality and rules out any discrimination on the basis of religion and gender. Such outdated religious beliefs should be done away with as soon as possible & government must encourage such women who want to do so (pray at such temples). It is time to reform our traditions. We successfully changed Sati-Pratha & Baal-vivaah, It is high time to change this outdated tradition.
Different rules for men and women are as old as religion. In a country with many patriarchal societies, women have largely accepted these rules, regardless of religion. Other side of story also says These bans, you could argue, deny women the right to publicly practice their faith. That doesn’t stack up well with the constitution, which says that Indians have the right to declare their faith openly, and have the right to perform the duties, rites, & rituals prescribed by their religion – even if they have different rules for women.
Women have over the centuries complied with these customs, and there is no doubt that there are women who comply either because they want to or because they don’t have any objection. The point is that they have a choice, even if not every woman realises this.
