There was a lot of activity on social media across LaLiga this past week. Real Madrid was back in action as reigning LaLiga Santander champions. Barcelona, meanwhile, looked back on two decades of Lionel Messi and there was a special anniversary at Atlético de Madrid too.
Adding the champions badge to Real Madrid’s shirt
Real Madrid played their first fixture of the 2020/21 campaign this weekend and debuted a special patch on their sleeves marking their status as the reigning champions of Spain. The club produced and shared a fun social media video this week, with captain Sergio Ramos making the badge magically ‘appear’ by rubbing his fingers on his shirt sleeve.

Sharing a special moment with Japanese fans
By adding Yoshinori Muto to a squad that already contained Takashi Inui, Eibar has become the first-ever LaLiga Santander side to have two Japanese players in their first-team squad in the same season. They then took on Villarreal this past weekend, who have their own Japan international in Takefusa Kubo. At the match, a 2-1 win for Villarreal, the trio posed together for a historic photo that was shared with Japanese fans on social media.
