On account of Guru Nanak Jayanti, BSE and NSE will remain closed on Wednesday. The Indian equity market was quite choppy throughout the day and was unable to carry the momentum on either direction.
The capital goods, IT and auto stocks were among the major laggards. On the other hand, realty, energy, telecom and the oil & gas stocks were among the major gainers. The mid-cap and the small-cap stocks continued to remain in demand.
The BSE Sensex opened at 25,786, touched an intra-day high of 25,902 and low of 25,704. It finally ended with a loss of 44 points at 25,776.
The NSE Nifty opened at 7,837 hitting a high of 7,870 and low of 7,813, before ending with a loss of 18 points at 7,832.
The India VIX (Volatility) index was down 4.86% to 16.24.
