Guntur: Agriculture minister Prathipati Pulla Rao said that steps are on to purchase cotton online from October 25.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, he said that the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) will take up the process.
With a view to avoiding middlemen, the CCI will purchase cotton directly from farmers by linking their Aadhaar cards, he said.
Stating that entire payment system will be made through online and the farmers will get money directly to their bank accounts, he promised to provide minimum support price to cotton.
Will File Defamation Suit: Prathipati
Rubbishing allegations levelled against him by YSRC leaders over the purchase of Agri Gold land as baseless, the minister said that YSRC leaders were resorting to mudslinging and making false statements.
“I will soon file a defamation petition against the YSRC leaders. Already, I have entrusted the work to an advocate and will file the defamation suit immediately after deciding on the quantum of amount in support of the petition,” he maintained.
It may be recalled that a couple of days ago, YSRC district president Marri Rajasekhar along with other leaders of the party demanded the removal of Pulla Rao from the state cabinet after charging the minister with purchasing 35 acres of land from tainted Agri Gold in Prakasam district on behalf of his wife at a nominal cost and selling the same at high cost violating the High Court directives.
