Mumbai: Tyre major CEAT Limited celebrated the success and glory of International cricket with ‘CEAT Cricket Rating (CCR) International awards 2016 at a glittering ceremony here today. The awards honored the best of International cricketing talent based on their performances as rated by the CEAT Cricket ratings (CCR) for the year 2015 – 2016.
CEAT Cricket Rating (CCR) is a first-of-its-kind system to officially recognize and reward cricketers for their performances in all the formats of the game in the international arena.
Mr. Harsh Goenka, Chairman, RPG Group said, “CEAT’s endeavor has always been to recognize individual talent in the game. We are privileged to have legends of the sport amongst us. As the sport has progressed over the years, striking newer avenues, CEAT Cricket Rating has kept pace with the developments. We witnessed some power-packed performances at the recently-concluded T20 World Cup and looking at the overall momentum by cricketers in their respective games, we have felicitated the top notch players of the year.”
England’s Joe Root was announced as the CEAT overall International Cricketer and Batsman of the year while Rohit Sharma was conferred with the CEAT Indian Player of the Year. CEAT awarded Kane Williamson as Test Cricketer of the Year and Martin Guptill as ODI Cricketer of the Year. Rewarding and encouraging younger talent, India’s Rishabh Pant who had a blistering U 19 World Cup was awarded CEAT Young Player of the Year. Virat Kohli was conferred with CEAT T20 Player of the Year award and India’s right arm off break R Ashwin was awarded as International Bowler of the Year.
“I would like to thank CEAT for rewarding me as the CEAT International Test Cricketer of the Year award. I feel privileged to be part of a rich pool of nominees and feel humbled to come out as the winner,” said Kane Williamson on receiving the honors.
In addition to the above, Ajinkya Rahane was honoured with the CEAT Special Award for becoming the 5th Indian to score a 100 in each innings of a test match while the Domestic Cricketer of the Year award was won by Shreyas Iyer.
It was also a day to honor the stalwarts of the yesteryears who have carved a name for themselves as legends of the sport. Cricketing legend Dilip Vengsarkar was awarded the ‘CCR International Lifetime Achievement Award’ for his outstanding contribution to Indian cricket.
Speaking on the occasion, cricket legend and the chief adjudicator of the CEAT Cricket Rating, Mr. Sunil Gavaskar said, “The CEAT International Cricket Awards are one of the most coveted awards in the cricketing world simply because they are given purely on performance and not on any subjective likes or dislikes. Apart from a handsome trophy, the winners also receive a cash incentive which does not happen with other awards. It is also an evening of entertainment and relaxation for the cricketers after a hard tough year of cricket.”
This year, CEAT announced the launch of CEAT Cricket Gear for the cricket enthusiasts across the country. CEAT also announced its association with India’s proficient batsmen Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma and under 19 captain Ishan Kishan for a 3-year bat endorsement deal.
