Chicago, IL: On Saturday 26th December, the Pakistanis in Chicago- led by the Members of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) – had gathered in her remembrance on her 8th death anniversary at Ali BBQ Restaurant Devon Ave.
As Pakistan’s 11th prime minister, Bhutto was the first woman to ever lead a Muslim country. Benazir was assassinated Dec 27, 2007 while leaving a campaign rally in Rawalpindi for the PPP at Liaquat National Bagh in the run-up to the January 2008 parliamentary elections.
A large number of PPP supporters traveled long distances to pay tributes to the Benazir. A large number of Women also pay tributes to the first Muslim Prime minister.
A larger number of the party workers including Illinois PPP leaders, PPP President Illinois Mirza Nusrat Hussain, General Secretary Eijaz Khan and others attended special prayers held for the eternal peace of the departed soul. They paid rich tributes to the Benazir for her sacrifice of life for democracy in the country.
The Program started off with well talented Emcee Tauseef Siddique. Program began with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Qari Syed Abdan Ullah. Syed Qasar Naqvi presented some poetry lines especially to pay tributes to Benazir. In the opening speech PTI Chicago leader Saleem Moti paid a glowing tribute to the late Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir and enlightened the gathering on her life devoted to the service of the people of Pakistan. Shaheed Benazir had sacrificed her life to restore democracy in Pakistan, he said. He spiritedly claimed that a dictator was forced to go only because of the success of the movement launched by the PPP under the leadership of the late Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. The other speakers included, Tasleem Raja, Bushra Khan, Amir Shah, Raja Yaqoob, Anwar Ali Roomi, Dr. Wasi Ullah Khan, PPP Organizer Chaudhary Abdul Karim, PPP General Secretary Aijaz Khan, PPP President Illinois Mirza Nusrat Hussain
All of the Speakers described Benazir Bhutto as a brave leader. “Braving all odds stacked on her way, she fought two dictators and played a significant role in the ouster of the two and restoration of democracy in the country.
Speakers also said that Benazir was a symbol of unity of the federation of Pakistan and her assassination was a great loss to Pakistan and its people. In his presidential speech PPP President Illinois Mirza Nusrat Hussain thanked all for finding time to attend and gracing the occasion and paid rich tributes to Benazir Bhutto.
At the end prayers were offered for the departed soul of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto by Raja Muhammed Yaqoob. After the end of prayers dinner was served.
