Pune, 7th February: The Association of Designers of India (ADI) is all set to present the 11th edition of Pune Design Festival (PDF) in the city on February 10th and 11th at Hyatt Regency. Based on the theme of ‘Trans.Form’, this year’s PDF 2017 will look at stories of Design Transformation. This 2-day festival will be a unique celebration of design while understanding its impact across all disciplines and learning from it. Starting at 9.00am on February 10th, PDF 2017 will be offering exciting interactive sessions, workshops, student competition, design expo and a better platform for connectivity.
Pune Design Festival has been organized every February since 2006 by the Association of Designers of India Pune Chapter. It is one of its kind event where full time practitioners of design come together to organise and host a two-day festival for the community and other related industries. With each passing year this festival is being recognised as a tool for creating social impact and change.
The inaugural keynote session of PDF 2017 will be addressed by John Thackara, a British-born writer, advisor public speaker, philosopher and a curator of the much-celebrated Doors of Perception conference. John will be speaking about ‘Finding your place in the next economy’.
More than just a celebration, this festival of Design will be filled with interactive lectures, workshops and insights by designers, design thinkers & evangelists from diverse domains. These being Pradip nair, MD, Autodesk, India, Paola Cardini, Industrial Design Associate Professor, Rhode Island School of Design, Karishma Shahani Khan, Creative-Director, Ka-Sha, Utsav Chakraborty, Writer, Performer, AIB, Allen Shaw, Artist, Illustrator and a storyteller to name a few.
This year’s memorial session on Late Prof MP Ranjan, a highly-respected design thinker and a senior faculty member of National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmedabad, will be addressed by Kiran Vaghela, who has more than fifteen years of experience in the field of environmentally-friendly building technologies, promoting artisans and entrepreneurs. He has also been supporting Government and other Institutions to develop disaster mitigation guidelines for safe and sustainable habitats across India and other countries.
PDF 2017 will also have some fascinating workshops. Akshay Sharma, Associate Professor, Industrial design, Virginia Tech will be hosting a hands-on workshop on quick, efficient concept generation while, a digital transformation workshop will be hosted by Claudio Moderini, a Design Director, Researcher and Educator. Another interesting workshop will be conducted by Aparna Piramal Raje, Author and columnist on workspace archetypes. Oni Sen, Founder, Electric Dreams Film Company will be hosting an exciting workshop on ‘The Saints of Sin Film Making’ which will be all about designing a narrative experience.
Th 11th edition of PDF will have various interesting sessions like Transforming Through Designs, Genesis for Change, Technology and / Or Design, Design for the Pluriverse, Changing Indian Design Landscape, Transforming Words, Time, Form, Material and Space. Other than the workshops and lecture sessions, this year’s PDF will also have 1 minute pitches, Student competitions, musical sessions, panel discussions, presentations and networking sessions.
The concluding keynote session of PDF 2017, will be addressed by renowned sculptor Arzan Khambatta. An Architect by profession and a sculptor by choice Arzan started sculpting in his teens by scouting for scrap metal, and welding them into “SCRAPTURES”. Today, he is many prominent public sculptures carved on his name.
The 11th Pune Design Festival will be an opportunity to reach out & network with Design Professional, Design Academicians, Technology experts, Progressive Thinkers from diverse domains, Corporate Leaders, Innovators and Students of Design, Architecture & Engineering.
