Symbiosis Institute of Computer Studies and Research (SICSR), Symbiosis Institute of Geoinformatics (SIG), Symbiosis Institute of Economics (SSE) and Symbiosis Statistical Institute (SSI) under the aegis of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) (SIU) jointly organized a common induction programme, recently.
Chief guest on the occasion was Mr Niranjan Rajadhyaksha, Managing Editor, MINT and Guest of Honour was Mr Dinanath Kholkar, Global Head of the Analytics and Insights, TCS. Other dignitaries present were- Dr Vidya Yeravdekar, Pro Chancellor, SIU, Dr Rajani Gupte, Vice Chancellor, SIU, Dr Jyoti Chandiramani, Director, SSE, Dr T.P. Singh, Director, SIG, Mr Harshad Gune, Officiating Director, SICSR and Dr Sharvari Shukla, Director, SSI.
Dr Rajani in her welcome speech informed, about the first batch of students enrolled in SSI. “Today, I am glad to announce the inauguration of SSI. Statistics is an emerging field and there has been an influx in job opportunities in this sector.”
Dr Vidya while addressing the gathering pointed out to the students to utilize their time well in the university by opting for floating credits being offered across disciplines from institutes under Symbiosis. “An interdisciplinary approach by choosing floating credits in fashion design, statistics, and opting for exchange programmes across the world will help in molding your personalities”, she emphasized.
Mr Kholkar in his speech shared insights about Industry 4.0. “Industry 4.0 includes cyber-physical systems, the Internet of things, cloud computing and cognitive computing in automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies.” Technology revolutions like app for farmers to know about their produce, vigilance on movement with the use of artificial intelligence to fight terrorism are some of the examples he cited. He added, “Due to the change in education today we are seeing a lot of advancement in the field of technology. Multi-faceted personalities are the need of the hour. Students and educational universities play a major role in nation building.”
Mr Niranjan welcomed the students and informed them the Indian economy is at the cusp of massive change for example bitcoins are replacing money as a mode of transaction. He said by the time the students graduate they will have a lucrative future.
