Pune: Even as the Pune city has been included in the Smart City project of the central government, the prabhaag (ward) no. 67 A in the Shivdarshan-Padmavati area in Pune has already become the Smart. The first phase of the Smart Ward project, which has been initiated by senior Congress corporator and former Deputy Mayor in Pune Municipal Corporation Aba Bagul, this project been completed within just six months at the cost of Rs 90 lakhs only and the same will be inaugurated on Saturday, July 16th, 2016 at 10 Am at the Rajiv Gandhi Academy of E-Learning at Shivdarshan by senior Congress leaders.
Aba Bagul, the man behind the Smart Ward equipped with the modern technology like:-
Smart Bus sheds,Smart Garbage bins, citizen Portal, Mobile Application for citizens, Smart E-rickshaws for collecting the garbage, free wi-fi, CCTV surveillance in the gardens etc.,
said, “The Union government included the Pune in the Smart City scheme and held a grand event to celebrate its anniversary. There was criticism that there is no trace of work but Rs. 3 to 3.5 corers was spent on the advertisements and program. In comparison, we have brought this project in just Rs.90 lakhs. It is our endeavor to make the life of common people more and more comfortable. This is why the first phase has been completed on priority basis.
The second phase will start soon which will include:-
Smart Street Lighting, Smart Water Meter and Management, Laser Barrier (smart traffic signals) and also the free e-rickshaws for the differently abled and senior citizens within the ward.”
Shri. Aba Bagul also said the people in Pune are lured with the dreams of Smart City for quite few days. In reality, the question mark looms over when will the project actually be realized and at what cost. Moreover, it is also a question as to what would happen to remaining Pune since only a specific area of the city is included in it. Hence, we prepared the plan for the Smart Ward before the government’s Pune Smart City scheme and started the work. Now, the Pune Municipal Corporation should implement such projects in other areas as well, he added. This project is scale able and other ward can be integrated in it.
What is in the First phase?
Smart Bus Sheds
Four Smart Bus Stops have been set up in the first phase of the Smart Ward which is provided with the modern facilities. All the information will be available to all on this Bus Stop through the Smart digital Display. It will showcase bus routes, bus numbers, Schedule, weather forecast, must visit places on walking distance and all the important information in the ward. Most importantly, the emergency push button at the bottom of the screen has been installed on the bus stop to avoid any untoward incident. This will convey the message to the nearest police station directly and the police would reach the place within minutes. CCTV surveillance provides evidence for any mishap on the bus stop and its connected to the police station. This will be a great help for the women’s and senior citizens safety.
Smart Garbage bins
Smart Dustbin has been installed in the first phase based on the IOT system (internet of things). Because of this system, the information of the status of the Dustbin can be shared on an Application. This will help in avoiding instances like the dustbin being overflowing and stinking. As the message of dustbin being filled up to the capacity reaches to the concerned workers on a tablet through IOT sensors, the cleanliness can be maintained easily. Hence, this Smart way of managing the waste is more practical and easy.
This alternative has been made available to provide a platform for the citizens to put forward their grievances. This Cloud-based citizen portal acts as a link between the public representatives, administration and citizens and is free for the citizens. One can see all the information pertaining to this Ward here. He can lodge complaints, give suggestions, get single point information about school, collges, hospitals, banks, gardens etc .citizens can get news and alerts. And so on…
Today, a plethora of Apps is available in the market, but one is not sure of getting expected and accurate information through them. Hence, a special mobile app has been created internally for the ward (scale able). It contains the facilities like the information of the ward, information of schools and hospitals, facilities to register complaints and their status, various alerts as well as giving feedback.eg:- If a road is under construction you get an alert in the morning itself, which save your time as well as traffic congestion.
Garbage Collecting E-rickshaws
Special E-rickshaws have been made to collect the garbage from the Smart Dustbin and special arrangement has been done to transport the waste. Besides, the rickshaw is free from the pollution because it runs on battery.
In the world of Smartphone’s, nothing can be smart without the wi-fi network. Hence, free wi-fi facility has been provided in the ward. Important places have been selected in the ward and free wi-fi has been made available there.
This Smart Ward, which is first of its kind not only in Pune, but all over the Maharashtra, has become a matter of praise from the citizens. Aba Bagul has conceptualized various projects in the area like Vasantrao Bagul Garden, Walavekar Garden, Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi Art Gallery, Papillon Garden, The Rajiv Gandhi Academy of E-Learning of the PMC which attracted fame all over the country, Seven Wonders, 4-D Theater, Alien Park, Musical Fountain, Mind Mapping with the replicas of Padma Vibhushan Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma and Padma Vibhushan Hariprasad Chaurasia and musician A. R. Rehman, Mirror Maze etc.
Those were realized through the Pune Municipal Corporation. Because of his persistence, the citizens have got many additional facilities besides the basic civic amenities and this Smart zone has become a tourism center. The senior Congress leader and Late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi brought the science and technology revolution in India. To keep alive his memory, the Rajiv Gandhi Academy of E-Learning was conceptualized and realized by Aba Bagul through the Pune Municipal Corporation. Hundreds of political leaders, educationists, IAS officers and foreign educationists come to visit it. Now, we believe that the many leaders and administrative officers will come to visit the Smart Ward conceptualized and realized by Hon. Aba Bagul of Congress party.
