Bhopal: An Indian Administrative Service officer posted in Madhya Pradesh has been transferred after he praised the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in a Facebook post.
IAS officer Ajay Singh Gangwar’s transfer order came on Thursday after his post went viral.
In the Hindi post that has now been deleted from his timeline, Gangwar had written: “Let me know the mistakes that Nehru should not have committed. In 1947, he prevented us from becoming Hindu Talibani Rashtra. Is that a mistake? He opened IITs, ISRO, BARC, BHEL, steel plants, dams and thermal power plants. Is that a mistake? Is it a mistake that he honoured Vikram Sarabhai, Homi Bhabha, not ‘intellectuals’ like Ramdev and Asaram?”
The post, which was widely shared, was viewed as a “violation of service rules”, say MP govt sources. The state government’s order, however, does not give an explanation regarding the officer’s transfer just months after his last assignment.
Gangwar was posted as Collector in Badwani in August.
The Congress party has announced that it will protest against “intolerance” displayed by the state’s Shivraj Singh Chouhan government.
“It is condemnable that a statesman like Nehru is spoken of and the person is demoted. This creates fear,” Meem Afzal of Congress said.
