New Delhi: Three more persons have been arrested in connection with the road rage incident in Central Delhi’s Turkman Gate where a 37-year-old man was beaten to death late on Sunday night. The accused have been identified as Atif, Shahdab and Saleem. With these arrests the total number of arrests in the case has gone up to four. One of the accused identified as Wasim was arrested on Monday.
The main person identified as Ameen Pehelwan is however is still at large. According to locals, Pehelwan is a local goon and is involved in many cases of extortion as well. “Locals have alleged that he is flourishing in the area because he has support of some local politicians. We will look into these allegations once we manage to arrest him,” a senior police officer said.
Shehnewaz was beaten to death by five men after his bike collided with their car.
The victim’s son had alleged that policemen posted at a nearby police post refused to help when his father was being thrashed by the goons. The Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi had assured of action against the policemen if found guilty, however no action was taken till Tuesday.
In a related development, BJP leader Vijendra Gupta met the family members of the victim and assured them of justice.
