Coimbatore, June 23, 2018: Volkswagen Motorsport India concludes the first race of its
premium one-make series Ameo Cup 2018 at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore. The day started with the Qualifying session, where Dhruv Mohite from Kolhapur took pole position with a 1:09:170, Jeet Jhabakh from Hyderabad joined him on the first row followed by Saurav Bandyopadhyay and Pratik Sonawane on the second.
The first race of the 2018 season got off to a cracking start with action starting as soon as the lights went green. On the front row, Jeet got a better start off the line taking the lead from Dhruv even before the first corner on the first lap. Dhruv managed to fight and take back the lead on lap 5, Thereafter, Dhruv maintained his lead and took his first win of the season.
Behind the top 2 drivers, Pratik Sonawane also got off to a brilliant start with a near perfect launch which helped him dive into the first corner ahead of Saurav on the first lap. Saurav fought hard throughout the race and managed to retain third position on lap 9 from Pratik. From there on, Saurav held on to third place to finish the race.
On the conclusion of the Race 1 Mr. Sirish Vissa, Head of Volkswagen Motorsport India said,” Minor tweaks have been made to the suspension and damping to the 2018 Ameo Cup race car to achieve even better performance from the car. The team have been hard at work in the off-season with the development of the 2018 race car and results are evident. The drivers are happy with the way the cars have performed and mechanically the car has been brilliant from the get go.”
Mr. Vissa, further added, “It has been an interesting weekend so far, the drivers have been competitive today, with the qualifying timings between 18 drivers being under 4 seconds. I am sure the championship is going to be very tightly fought and I am looking forward to the rest of the season.”
