Pune: Pune’s very own renowned Laparoscopic Surgeon, Dr. Jyotsna Sanjay Kulkarni was recently bestowed with ‘Sushrata Award’ by Mumbai Medical Foundation at the hands of Dr. K K Mehta – a very senior Surgeon and trustee of Mumbai Medical Foundation. This ceremonious event took place at L. T. M. Medical College Auditorium located at Sion, Mumbai. The accolade comprises of a Citation and a cash award of Rs.15,000/-.
Dr. Jyotsna Kulkarni is the First surgeon to perform Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy in Pune and second to do so in India in the year 1990. She started India’s first laparoscopic surgery training centre with animal lab in 1992. More than 400 surgeons have been trained under her in this training centre till now. She started Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy for obesity and Single Port Laparoscopic surgery for gall bladder and appendix in the year 2008. She has been invited as operative faculty for laparoscopic surgical procedures in various cities for all India level conferences and workshops. She has also presented her papers and videos related to Laparoscopy worldwide.
Mumbai Medical Foundation was founded in 1996 by renowned doctors such as Dr. Snehalata Deshmukh – Past President of Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) and Past Vice Chancellor of Bombay University, Dr. H. S. Bhanushali – Past President of ASI and senior surgeon of Thane, Dr. Sanjay Oak – Vice Chancellor of Dr D Y Patil University and other esteemed doctors. Since 2004, the foundation felicitates eminent surgeons and associated specialists. The objective behind this award is to honour these noted doctors for their outstanding contribution in the fields of their expertise.
