Hyderabad: Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) and Recykal a digital technology company working in Waste Management and Recycling space have jointly launched E-waste & Plastic Waste Collection Drive in a public event held at Kompally, Hyderabad. This drive aims to raise awareness, sensitize the importance of recycling among the citizens and facilitate the collection infrastructure required for responsible disposal and recycling. The event also saw the inauguration of ‘Recykal Point’ a model solid waste collection facility jointly initiated by TSPCB and Recykal
Hundreds of individuals, students, corporates, schools, colleges took part in the drive along with the e-waste & plastic wastes and got incentivized for responsible disposal at Recykal Point.
Speaking at the event, the event Mr. Viswanatham, Chief Environment Engineer, TSPCB reminded the importance of source level segregation for improving recycling. “Households, Businesses, Organizations lack a convenient channel for disposal and can’t go directly to recyclers. These ‘Recykal Points’ we are setting up will act as nodes that connect Waste Generators and Recyclers and reduce the amount of recyclable wastes going to landfills” he added.
Mr. Murali Mohan, Joint Chief Environmental Scientist, TSPCB has highlighted that its every individuals, organizations responsibility create awareness and join hands to the growing plastic waste, e-waste problem. He also said “The current generation should inculcate ecofriendly habits like recycling to save valuable resources and reduce the impact on future generations”
Abhishek Deshpande, Co-founder, Chief Customer Officer, Recykal said “Awareness and Infrastructure are critical elements for recycling to thrive. We are using technology to bring that awareness and build technology enabled infra to facilitate better recovery, recycling of materials”. He also outlined the plans to setup more Recykal Points and work with Government agencies, social entrepreneurs to enable the same.
As part of this program, Businesses, Bulk Generators can drop their Plastic Wastes, E-Wastes at ‘Recykal Point Kompally’ and get incentivized. Alternatively, they can call 040-49171143 to request pick up from your location. Individuals can download UZED app on their mobile to dispose responsibly and send plastic, e-wastes to recyclers.
Currently Telangana generates 80385 MT of E-Wastes annually which are valued at around Rs.2841 crores. Apart from this, 450-500 metric tons of plastic wastes are being generated in Hyderabad alone. Valuable metals like gold, silver, titanium, aluminum can be extracted from recycling e-wastes and plastic wastes are finding their way to be recycled into new products, used as fuel for cement kilns and construction of roads.
