Pune: After essaying more than 16 years of leadership roles in the corporate world, Mr. Tilakraj Tandon, M.D. Evolve Technologies and Services embarked on the entrepreneurial path in 1984.
His first venture grew up to be Tandon Auto Udyog Pvt. Ltd., a critical OEM to the Kinetic and Bajaj Autogroups and in it’s prime, it was responsible for almost 100% production of brake shoes for Chetak, M80 and Sunny and clutch shoes for Kinetic Honda.
He then diversified into the metal domain by setting up Tandon Metals Pvt. Ltd., a smelting facility for lead, supplying battery plates to Exide, Amara Raja and Tata Green. 100% stake in this unit was taken at a premium in 2007 by the primary customer, Exide Industries.
Evolve Technologies & Services Pvt. Ltd. was set up in 2008 by him to look at opportunities in the Technology domain and was joined by the Executive Director Mr. Amitoj Sethi in this venture.
Evolve Technologies works in the Telecom domain, having over 2,000 employees in this area. They are primarily into Manpower Augmentation for Telecom Hardware and Software Installation, Operations and Maintenance.
In 2011, Mr. Tandon identified a gap in the market for Digital X-Ray Inspection. In India, the technical definition for contaminants in food products is metallic objects, whereas globally the definition is more encompassing to include unwanted elements like stone, bone, rubber and plastic in addition to metallic objects.
He setup a research team along with facilities to develop the product line and they worked together almost two years before the launch of the first product. The Digital X-Ray Industrial Inspection System was launched in Oct. 2012 and met with a lukewarm response in its intended food domain. This was because the laws in our country did not increase the scope of definition of food contaminants to include non-metallic objects.
However some customers in the high-pressure dye casting industry showed keen interest in the product and Evolve began marketing the product to this industry.
Evolve has since provided machines for examination of aluminum die casted components to large companies like Sigma Electric, Amtek Auto and Tyche Die Castings.
The machine has also been purchased by Kapil Foods, an Aurangabad based food products manufacturer, who owns the Chottu Kolhapuri Brand and has outlets across Aurangabad, Nasik and Pune.
Evolve became the first company in India to receive a license for commercial production of the DXIIS (Digital X-Ray Industrial Inspection System) from the AERB (Atomic Energy Regulatory Board).
The key imported components in these machines were the X-Ray source and the Digital Detector. To improve our self-reliance in the production of these custom made machines, the research and development team took on the additional task of indigenization of these components.
The X-Ray source was first indigenized and we are currently working with some government agencies to build this component for their products.
The digital detector being used in these machines was large and as we are the only indigenous manufacturer of the product, the market for this type of a digital detector was very limited. So, to validate the indigenization of this technology, the team chose to develop digital dental detectors.
The team has worked for over a year with investments in the excess of Rs. 15 Cr. to design and develop the OraDect Pro DDX 1500.
The market currently comprises of Digital Detectors from global giants like Carestream, Vatech, etc., imported into the country. The OraDect Pro DDX 1500 is India’s first indigenously designed, developed and manufactured Oral Digital Dental Detector for Dentists, Dental Clinics, Dental Surgery and Endodontic Treatment Facilities.
This is directly aligned to the Honorable Prime Minister Mr. Modi’s drive to “Make In India”.
The design of the OraDect Pro DDX 1500 incorporates solutions to typical problems that are faced by Dentists, all across India as well as environmental factors that are unique to our part of the world.
The OraDect Pro DDX 1500 is built on state-of-art technology of Structured Micro Columnar Fiber Optic Scintillators (FOS) coupled with Super CMOS image sensor as the base platform with three-layer hybrid advanced CMOS technology and an on-chip triggering and global shuttering mechanism to ensure crisp, clear and detailed images which are very important for the dentist to be able to make the right diagnosis.
The OraDect Pro DDX 1500 is integrated with an in-house developed software for near instantaneous image capture and display. Image Enhancement Functions like Zoom, Brightness, Contrast & Gamma supplement the dentist’s decision-making skills, helping them arrive at the correct diagnosis, quickly and confidently.
Along with this software Evolve has also bundled in a patient management system at no additional cost to the dentist so that they can take their practice digital in all aspects. The patient management system allows the dentist to manage their appointment calendar as well as track patient information and their dental needs.
A typical problem faced by dentists using imported dental detectors is that of prompt service.
While Evolve is sure that the service requirements will be minimal, they have already setup a service desk with access through both e-mail and telephone. Being the manufacturers of the product gives them an advantage when it comes to service, as they understand all the internal dynamics of the product and it’s support elements like the computers, X-Ray Generators and are able to address any issues in a prompt and comprehensive manner.
They also realize that being a relatively new entrant in this market, they do not have any past history to benchmark against and there may be some questions in the dentist’s mind regarding the product life and durability. To ensure that these questions are put to rest, they are offering a 3-year warranty on the product.
So, in summary, the OraDect Pro DDX 1500 is a world-class global product at an Indian price with excellent imaging capabilities and a comprehensive software bundle to provide Dentists long-term value on an ongoing basis.
