Pune, Oct, 14, 2016: Reliance Foundation Youth Sports Football saw the commencement of the Group stages in the College Boys category in Pune. Group A’s action saw Garware College of Commerce come up against Symbiosis Center for Media & Communication. Garware took the early stronghold of the Group with an astounding 6 – 1 victory over their counterparts.
Symbiosis had looked strong in the early exchanges of the match creating a few half chances from long range but did not manage to trouble the Garware keeper. Garware got back in the game midway through the first half as they seemed to have settled down and passed the ball along smoothly. The breakthrough came in the 27th minute when Garware’s midfielder Yash Jain scored to put his side in front. Garware doubled their advantage on the 36th minute when number 11, Vedant Raipurkar scored for his team. Garware looked confident going into halftime but Symbiosis managed to score in the 44th minute through Ansh to keep them still in contention in the second half.
The second half saw Garware take the match away from Symbiosis as they restored their 2 goal advantage within the first minute of the second half when their forward Prithviraj Satav scored the third goal. A 4 minute blitz at the hour mark left Symbiosis gasping as the match was completely taken away from them. Nilesh More scored in the 61st minute to put Garware 4 – 1 in front as Sanket Kanse grabbed the 5th in the 64th minute and substitute Mihir put the cherry on top in the 65th minute when he scored the 6th goal for Garware. The dominating performance up front was backed up by Garware’s defense as they did not give any chances to Symbiosis to close the match at 6 – 1 in favor of Garware College of Commerce.
Scoring half a dozen goals Garware opened the Matchday by moving to the top of Group A. The other two teams of the group, Christ College and Poona College of Arts Science & Commerce played out a 0 – 0 draw later in the day to be tied at 2nd position in the group standing with Symbiosis Center for Media & Communication at the bottom with a – 5 goal difference.
