Pune: HandsOfIndia, started in 2010 by a team of two sisters – one an ex- Air Force Officer and another a Software Architect works with weaver and hand-embroidery groups from all over India to create contemporary apparels and home furnishings. The idea behind HOI was to start an enterprise which provides employment to people in villages and small towns, focussing on handlooms and hand-embroidery. HOI is deeply committed towards preserving the rich textile and handcrafting traditions of the country, while focussing more on the Artisan than the Art.
HOI now works with 50 artisan groups across the country totalling 1500 artisans, employs about 80 people in its stitching and marketing department based out out of Vrindaban, Uttar Pradesh, and retails online through its own website www.handsofindia.com.
In its quest to introduce new handloom traditions, HOI will be launching its limited edition handwoven kurtas made from mekhela chador woven by its women artisans from Assam.
