Pune Festival, a confluence of music, dance, drama, art, singing, instruments, sports and culture is celebrating its 30th year. It will be held during the Ganeshotsav Period from 13th September to 23rd September this year. The inauguration function will be held on Friday, September 14th at 4.30 pm at the hands of veteran actress and danseuse MP Hema Malini at the Ganesh Kala Krida Rang Manch. Maharashtra’s Food and Civil Supplies Minister and Guardian Minister of Pune District Girish Bapat and State Tourism Minister Jay Kumar Rawal will be present as the chief guests at the occasion. Besides them, Maharashtra’s Minister of State for Social Welfare Dilip Kamble, Minister of State for Water Resources Vijay Shivatare, Former Co-operatives Minister Harshvardhan Patil, Deputy Mayor of Pune Siddharth Dhende, Managing Director of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation Suhas Diwase will be present as the guests of honor.
The Pune Festival is organized jointly by Pune Festival Committee, citizens of Pune, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation and Government of India – Tourism Department.
The installation of Pune Festival’s Ganesh will take place with full rituals at the hands of Air Marshal I P Vipin (VM) Commandant, NDA at Hotel Saras Nehru Stadium at 10.00 am on September 13th. Metropolitan Commissioner and CEO of PMRDA Kiran Gite (IAS), Actress Prajakta Mali and Mrs. United Nations Shraddha Kakad will be present on this occasion. Vedamurti Dhananjay Ghate Guruji will officiate the installation ceremony.
The individuals from various fields with outstanding achievements are honored with the ‘Pune Festival Award’ during the inaugural ceremony. This year, former Governor of Bihar Dr. D.Y. Patil, former Governor of Sikkim Shrinivas Patil, BVG Group Chairman and Managing Director Hanmant Gaikwad and Actor Vikram Gokhale will be felicitated with this honor.
Every year the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal in Pune celebrating their centenary are felicitated at inauguration function. This year, the Sakhlipir Talim Rashtriya Maruti Mandir (Ganeshotsav Mandal) will be honored.
Opening ceremony of Pune Festival is also going to be very spectacular affair. The program will start with Shenai by Tukaram Daithankar. Renowned Kathak dancer Rujuta Soman and Bharatanatyam dancer Arundhati Patwardhan will present Ganesh Vandana with their co-artist. It will be followed by demonstrations of Yoga postures by 15 boys and girls of the Maharashtra Mandal. Pallavi Kavhane is the coach for these boys and girls. Dhananjay Damle has coordinated this. A program on the occasion of birth centenary year of renowned poet Ga. Di. Madgulkar, writer and singer Sudhir Phadke and writer and actor Phu. La. Deshpande will showcase their songs by Bhagyashree Abhyankar, Sonali Nandurkar, Rushikesh Badwe and Hemant Valunjkar. They will be accompanied by Parag Mategaonkar (Harmonium) and Rajendra Hasabnis (Tabala). Prakash Bhonde is the coordinator. The ‘Povada Fusion’, which is presented by 18 female artists in special attire and invoking women power, will be an added attraction for the inauguration ceremony. The concept, script and music of Povada Fusion is of Rajneesh Kalawant while Tejashree Adige has choreographed the Povada Fusion. Supriya Tamhane is the coordinator. A dance performance ‘Festival of India’ will be presented with songs including Holi dance, Punjabi Bhangra dance, Gujarati Garba dance and Koli dance of Maharashtra. Renowned Kathak dancer Rujuta Soman, renowned choreographer Kunal Phadke and Shilpa Joshi have choreographed it while it will be presented by 11 boys and 11 girls from ‘Dance Mantra Group’ and 7 artists of ‘Rujuta Soman Cultural Academy’. It will be followed by Tribute to Bollywood Music Legends, a special show of dance and music, on occasion of birth centenary year of Hindi cinema’s renowned music directors C. Ramachandra, Naushad Ali and Jaidev. It will be presented by renowned actress Prajakta Mali, Priya Marathe, Chetan Chavda and Mayuresh Pem with about 25 artists of Pune Festival. The concept and choreography of the program is of Tejashree Adige.
The compeering of the inaugural ceremony will be done by Yogesh Deshpande in Marathi and Durriya Chipchandler in English.
After this inauguration ceremony, an evergreen entertaining program the ‘Sufi Music Darbar’ (Qawwali) will be presented. The President of Maharashtra Cosmopolitan Education Society P. A. Inamdar and Chairperson of Deccan Minority Library Abeda Inamdar have convened this. The nationally famous artists like P. Srikanth Naik (lead singer), Kalyan Murkutte (harmonium and singing), Narsing Desai and Pankaj Naik (harmonium), Smita Rana (Satar), Kuldeep Chavan (Benzo), Harshad Bhave (Tabla, Jembe), Gopinath Varape (Pakhwaj), Vishwajeet Kulkarni (Tabla) and in chorus Vijay Jadhav, Dr. Rizwan Shaikh, Navaratna Verma, Sanket Gandhi, Avinash Tijore, Harish Kute, Pawan Talekar, Uddhav Mhaske, Bhalchandra Jadhav, Radhika Pardeshi, Mulanshu Pardeshi, Shreyas Kshitre are participating in it. A total of 22 artists will be presenting the program and Veena Dighe will compere the program.
The other main programs in Pune Festival will take place at Ganesh Kala Krida Rang Manch in which programs like Miss Pune Festival contest on September 15th, the program The Golden Era of Music presented by the renowned singer Jitendra Bhuruk and co-artists on the same day, Hindi humorous poet meet on September 16th and renowned singer Rani Verma’s Jashn-e-Husna on 17th September will be presented.
The prestigious Miss Pune Festival contest will be held on Saturday, September 15th at 3:00 pm. 20 beauty pageants in the age group of 18 – 25 years among 100 contestants are selected. In the 1st round ramp walk is organized for these 20 pageants with Khin-Khwab Banarasi Cloth theme. Hawayian theme is kept for the second round of ramp walk. 10 pageants would get selected for the final round. In the final round Miss Pune Festival and the runner ups will get selected on the basis of question answer session based on their personality, promptness, general knowledge, confidence and beauty which will be followed by crowning ceremony. Also Best Hair, Best Smile, Best Fitness Model, Miss Photogenic and Miss Favorite will be nominated on this occasion. Supriya Tamhane is the coordinator of this event. Jui Suhas is the show director, fashion choreographer and grooming mentor. The music will be composed by Jugal Chandan.
On the same day at 8:30 pm renowned singer Jitendra Bhuruk and co-artist will perform ‘Golden Era of Music’, a musical tribute to renowned music directors like C Ramchandra, Sudhir Phadke, Naushad Ali, Snehal Bhatkar, Ram Kadam and poet Majrooh Sultanpuri on their birth centenary year.
On Sunday, 16th September at 8:30 pm a Hindi Humorous Poet Sammelan will be held with the participation of renowned national poets like Subhash Kabra, Mahesh Dubey, Navneet Hullad, Rajendra Malviya, Saira Rana Tabassum and Sumita Peshwa. Renowned poets Subhash Kabra will compeer this poet sammelan.
On Monday, 17th September at 8:30 pm renowned singer Rani Verma daughter of veteron singer Dr. Manik Verma and poet Amar Verma will present ‘Jashn-E-Husna’, a musical program based on the poetic description of a woman’s beauty and grace projected in Hindi films. Polpular old retro songs like ‘Chaudhwi ka chand’, ‘Chandan sa badan’, ‘Ye chand sa roshan chehra’, Bholi soorat’, ‘Piya aiso jiya me’, ‘Parde me rehne do’ are used to create the mood, projecting on woman’s beauty and grace.
Other cultural programs of Pune Festival will be held at Bal Gandharva Rangmandir and Yashwant Rao Chavan Natyagruh. Mohan Tillo is the coordinator for these cultural programs. On Tuesday, 18th September at 5:00 pm renowned classical exponent from Bhopal V. Anuradha Singh will present ‘Bandish’ by performing Kathak dance. At 6:30 pm Kathak Ballet program ‘Shivtandav’ will be performed by Sukriti Dance Academy. On the same day at 9:30 pm Ipta Pune will present ‘Shaniwar Wada Vikane Ahe’ the price winning drama of state drama competition written by Pradeep Tungare and directed by Ravindra Devdhar. On Wednesday, 19th September at 5:00 pm Indian Classical Singer Arati Ankalikar-Tikekar will perform ‘Survandana’. On Thursday 20th September at 5:00 pm Dr. Shashikala Ravi will present ‘Devi Parvati’ a Kathak dance program. At 6:30 pm a Kathak Ballet ‘Ardha Nareshwar’ is organised by Nupra Dance Academy. On the same day Purushottam Karandak winning Ekankika will be performed at 9:30 pm. On Friday, 21st September at 5:00 pm ‘Hasyotsav Ekpatrincha’ will be presented by Hasaydan Foundation by renowned marathi one act play artists. Makarand Tillo is the coordinator for this program. Also artists like Banda Joshi, Dilip Hallyal, Chaitrali Majgaonkar-Bhandari, Srinivas Sapre will be participating in this program. One act play artist Banda Joshi will get felicitated on this occasion for completing his 5000 programs. On Saturday, 22nd September at 5:00 pm Bengali Association from Pune will present ‘Bengal Mahotsav’ a glimpse of Bengal culture and their different facets along with its iconic Durga Puja performed by 50-60 artists between the age group of 2-78 years. Mihir Dutta and Samar Roy Choudhary are the coordinator of Bengal Mahotsav. On same day at 9:30 pm ‘Marathi Kavi Sammelan’ is also organised. Renowned poet Ramdas Phutane will be the compeer. Famous poets from Maharashtra like Arun Mhatre, Mahesh Keluskar, Sahebrao Thange, Prashant More, Suresh Shinde, Anjali Kulkarni, Sudesh Lotlikar, Ramani Sonawane, BK Shaikh and Anil Dixit will also perform on this occassion.
At Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruh a special audio visual show is organised on Tuesday, 18th September at 5:00 on occasion of birth centenary year of Hindi cinema’s renowned music directors C. Ramachandra, Naushad Ali, Jaidev and poet Majrooh Sultanpuri by Sulbha Teranikar, Vandana Kulkarni and Usman Shaikh. On Wednesday, 19th September at 5:00 pm Dr. Lakshmikant Sahakari from Goa will perform on classical and semi classical sangeet. At 6:30 pm a sangeet program by Mansingh Milind Kulkarni is organised. A special tribute program on the occasion of birth centenary year of renowned poet Ga. Di. Madgulkar, writer and music director Sudhir Phadke, and writer and actor Phu. La. Deshpande will be present at Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruh on 22nd September at 5:00 pm. The participants are Swarna Mategaonkar, Sawani Datar, Chaitnya Kulkarni and Mandar Apte. The script writer and compeer is Arun Nulkar. The music composer is Parag Mategaonkar and Prakash Bhonde of ‘Swaranand Pratishthan’ has presented it.
A special program ‘Voice of Pune Festival’ is organized during the Pune Festival period. The 1st round of program was held at various places like Sasane nagar at Hadapsar, Pyramid Hall at Chinchwad and Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Natyagruh at Padmavati. In this competition around 300 singers had participated. Last round of this competition will be held at Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruh on Thursday, 20th September at 5:00 pm in the presence of renowned singer Sawani Shende. In this competition there will be 4 groups of male and female of age group 15-40 years and 40 years above in which top 3 performers from each group will get awarded. Anuradha Bharati is coordinator of this program.
Special programs like ‘Ugawate Taare’ and ‘Indradhanu’ for upcoming child artist and young artist is organized in Pune Festival every year. ‘Ugawate Taare’ is organised for child artist from age group of 7 – 14 years while ‘Indradhanu’ for young artist of age group of 15 – 25 years. 300 artists in ‘Ugawate Taare’ and 100 young artists in ‘Indradhanu’ will be participating. ‘Ugawate Taare’ is organised in 3 parts which will be held at Bal Gandharv Rangmandir on Saturday, 15th September at 12:30 pm as ‘Uagawate Taare Part 1’ and at 5:00 pm as ‘Uagwate Taare Part 2’. ‘Ugawate Taare Part 3’ is organized on Sunday, 16th September at 12:30 pm at Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruh. On the same day at 5:00 pm ‘Indradhanu’ will be held. Ravindra Durve is the coordinator.
As with every year, this year again Mahila Mahotsav is organised to persuade and motivate Women’s talent and capabilities. On Thursday, 20th September at 1:00 pm renowned celebrity chef Vishnu Manohar will present ‘Recepi Show’ demonstration at Harshal Hall, Karve Road in which 3 spicy and 1 sweet dish will be presented. On Saturday, 22nd September at 11:00 am women dance competition is organised at Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruh. Solo Dance competition for the age group of 20 – 35 years and 36- 50 years and Group Dance competition for the age group of 20-50 years is organised. Top 3 performers from each group will be awarded with prize. Sanyogita Kudale and Deepali Pandhare are the coordinators. Like every year Akriti group women painting artists, painting competition and exhibition will be held at Balgandharv Kaladalan on 17th, 18th and 19th September. The inauguration will be held on Monday, 17th September at 11:00 am. Painting exhibition is organized for all 3 days from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm and is open to all. There will be 3 groups of age group of 15-30 years, 31-60 years and 60 years above. The topic will be ‘Nature Landscape’ this year. Top 3 painting artist from each group will be awarded with prize. Also counsellation prize will be given. Renowned sculpturer and painting artist Pramod Kamble will showcase the sculpture of Phu. La. Deshpande while Sudhakar Chavan, Former Professor of Abhinav College will give Charcoal Landcape demonstration. On the other hand Mukta Avachat will make water colour painting of Former Prime Minister Late Shri. Atal Bihari Vajpayee while Supriya Shinde will do the oil painting of renowned singer Late Sudhir Phadake. For the first time the paintings will be sold in this exhibition. Anuradha Bharati is the coordinator for the program.
This year also various sports events has been organized in the Pune Festival. On Saturday, 15th September at 6:30 am ‘Pune Festival Golf Tournament’ is organized at Pune Golf Course, Yerawada. More than 100 participants have taken part in this tournament. The tornament is organised in gold, silver and bronze sections in the handicap category. Jaideep Patwardhan is the coordinator. On Saturday, 15th and Sunday, 16th September Pune District Mallakhamb competition for girls and boys has been organised by Pune District Mallakhamb Association at Maharshtra Mandal, Tilak Road from 10 am to 4 pm. The prize distribution ceremony will be held on Sunday, 16th September at 4:00 pm at Maharshtra Mandal, Tilak Road. Maharashtra Mandal’s Dhanajay Damle and Abhijeet Bhosale are the coordinators. On Sunday, 16th September at 9:00 am Roll Ball competition is organized by Pune District Roll Ball Association at Mahesh Vidyalay, Kothrud. Boys and girls from 10 schools each will be participating in this competition. Raju Dabhade is the coordinator. On the same day at 10:00 am ‘Dirt Track’ competition will be held at Suyog Maidan near Gangadham(Market Yard) in different 14 categories. Vikrant Raut, Anwar Shaikh and Rachana Nanda of Pune Motor Sports Association are the coordinators. Prasanna Gokhale is the convener of the sports committee of Pune Festival.
