PHDCCI organized a Workshop on Energy Efficiency Opportunities in the Hotels / Hospitality Sector held on 28.04.2022 at Gurugram.
INDIA: The commitments made by India in the Glasgow, UK summit call for a robust action energy transition action plan in all sectors of the economy, especially in the Hospitality sector, so as to achieve the targets of reducing the carbon intensity of its economy to less than 45 percent by 2030; said Dr. Hanif Qureshi, IPS Secretary, and Director General, NRE & HAREDA, during a workshop on Energy Conservation in the Hospitality sector, organized on 28.04.2022 at Gurugram.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Qureshi said that the transition from fossil fuel to non-fossil fuel is an eminent necessity keeping in view the global climate scenario. In modern hotels, expenses on energy account for approx. 30-35 % of total expenses and electricity accounts for more than 50% of total energy utilization, which is mainly used for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), lighting systems, etc. (Balance may be for cooking, Transportation, etc.). He also briefed the participants about the initiative of the New and Renewable Energy Department and urged for increased use of renewable energy resources, battery storage technologies, Electrical Vehicles, as well as passive cooling/heating, and lighting/shading strategies in meeting the complex energy requirements in the hotel building. India is going to achieve its 2030 renewable energy target.

Vishram Kumar Meena, IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Gurugram welcome the participants during the occasion and pointed out that providing comfort and services to guests, typically with a low level of energy efficiency affects the environment and pollutes the resources and one must make effort to reduce their carbon footprints
Sh. Abhishek Sharma, Joint Director, Bureau of Energy Efficiency briefed the participants about initiatives of BEE, GoI in the area of energy conservation. Sh. Yogesh Bhatia, Convener, Gurgaon, PHD Chamber, and MD, LML Electric Scooters Pvt Ltd, Sh. Vishal Singh, MD, Singh Isotech Pvt Ltd, Smt Jyoti Yadav Manager, SIDBI, Sh. KD Singh, President Delhi Chapter, ISHRAE and Sh. Punit Sethi, Chairman, Haryana Chapter, IIA shared their expertise during the technical session.
Sh. Viraj Gadhoke, Convener, Haryana Power Committee, PHD Chamber thanked HAREDA and BEE for organizing such an important workshop. Sh. Balwan Singh Golen, Project Director HAREDA, Sh. Rameshwar Singh, Project Officer, Gurugram, Sh. Sukhchain Singh, Project Manager, HAREDA was also present during the meeting.

Mr. K D Singh, Chairman, Delhi Chapter, ISHARE, Ms. Jyoti Yadav, Manager SIDBI, Mr. Punit Sethi, Chairman, Haryana Chapter, IIA, Mr. Vishal Singh MD, Singh Isotopic Pvt Ltd apprised about the various technical aspects to conserve energy in the hospitality sector.
The workshop was attended by more than 80 representatives from the Hospitality sector and a Best Practice guidebook on energy efficiency in Hotels was also shared with participants for their input.
