Sachin Tendulkar, along with 18,000 runners, to participate in the #KeepMoving Push-up Challenge
Saturday, February 23, 2019: India’s top athletes are set to compete for the prestigious title at the 4th edition of the IDBI Federal Life Insurance New Delhi Marathon on Sunday, 24th February 2019. All four categories of the IDBI Federal Life Insurance New Delhi Marathon 2019 will be flagged off by the Brand Ambassador, Sachin Tendulkar, from the iconic Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. This year will see more than 18,000 runners competing alongside the elite Indian athletes on the roads of the capital city.
The full marathon will start at 4:00 a.m. and will see 2,000 runners competing, while the Half Marathon will be flagged off at 6:00 a.m. with 6,000 participants, followed by 5,500 in the Timed 10K and 4,500 in Swacch Bharat run commencing at 7:30 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. respectively. The IDBI Federal Life Insurance New Delhi Marathon is the National Marathon Championship, as recognized by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), and the runners will be competing for a total prize money pool of Rs. 20 lakhs across various categories.
In the men’s full marathon category, Bahadur Singh Dhoni, who leads the elite category, is looking forward to win the IDBI Federal Life Insurance New Delhi Marathon 2019 title, and in the women’s category, Jyoti Gawte from Maharashtra, who finished the IDBI Federal Life Insurance New Delhi Marathon 2018 in 2:50:12sec and emerged as the first runner-up is aiming to win the title this year.
Dhoni will face tough competition from fellow contenders, Rashpal Singh, and Karan Singh, from the BEG Army, Pune. All three have won major marathons in India and one can expect a close race between them for the top honours.
Jyoti Gawte will also have a tough fight with Monika Raut from Maharashtra Railways, as Monika was the second runner-up of the IDBI Federal Life Insurance New Delhi Marathon 2018 with a timing of 2:50:12sec. Both the contenders will be giving their best to win the run.
In the half marathon, Shankar Man Thapa from ASI Pune is one of the top runners leading the elite runners’ contingent in the male category. Nitu Singh from Allahabad, who won the 3rd place in the IDBI Federal Life Insurance New Delhi Marathon 2017 by finishing in 1:27:11sec, will be another runner to watch out for in the female category.
The top 5 elite athletes in the Full Marathon category (Men’s and Women’s respectively) and the top 3 elite athletes in the Half Marathon category (Men’s and Women’s respectively) will receive the prize money as per their ranking. The elite athletes will be competing for total prize money of Rs. 11 lakhs.
#KeepMoving Push-up Challenge: This year, 18,000 runners will join Sachin Tendulkar in the #KeepMoving Push-up Challenge. Prior to each of the races, Sachin, with the participants, will do 5-10 push-ups as a part of the #KeepMoving Push-up Challenge. In order to make a difference to the families of the martyrs, IDBI Federal will be donating Rs 100 for each participant towards the fund for the martyrs.
This year will witness the Inspirational Runners race in different categories like para-athlete, Himanshu Kumar who is running the 5K, the senior-most woman, 73-year-old Suneetha Prasanna who is participating in the half marathon and Gurleen Arora, a regular runner who has experienced major weight loss after taking up running and will be a pacer in the 21k category.
